Have a lovely weekend.
Our Learning
Pearls
Welcome back to the summer term, we’ve had a busy few weeks in Pearls class. Our new theme is ‘Nature Detectives’ and as a lovely start to our theme, we visited ‘Acorn Hallow Farm’ last Wednesday. At the farm we fed the lambs, went on a bug hunt, used willow to make a shelter and sat around the campfire for a story, a hot chocolate and a biscuit! We had a lovely day experiencing the outdoors (and luckily it didn’t rain until we were getting back on the coach to come back to School.) In our provision, we have been collaging flowers and painting with broccoli in a creative areas. We have been focusing on measuring and we have been comparing lengths, weights and capacities, inside and outside.
This week we have been reading ‘Dear Zoo’ and we have been adapting the story to write our own version ‘Dear Farm’. In our provision we have been creating animal enclosures in our construction area and at our playdough table! We have also been looking at creating repeating patterns on snakes and looking carefully at the patterns found on snakeskin. In maths lessons we have been focusing on number we have been finding odd and even numbers, doubling and halving.
Next week we will be learning about ‘Earth Day’ and we will be planting seeds.
Rubies
What a busy start to the Summer term! After coming back rested and full of chocolate, Rubies got straight back to work. We started our new writing unit in English by gathering vocabulary and ideas to write a retelling of the Three Little Pigs. In maths, we have started learning about capacity and measuring weight using grams and kilograms. We started our new theme (The Great Fire of London) by investigating what we already know about London and exploring how it has changed since that terrible night in 1666. Our ‘What a Wonderful World’ unit in RE has begun with learning new vocabulary such as ‘precious,’ ‘sacred’ and ‘creation’ and we have learnt about how Christians believe God created the world in seven days.
We have had a fantastic start to our final term and we are so excited to see where the next few weeks takes us!
Diamonds
Besides the Anglo-Saxons, we have been learning about Money in Maths, Solids, Liquids and Gases (including a liquid investigation involving ketchup) in Science and we have begun to study Wassily Kandinsky in Art.
Sapphires
Welcome back to the Summer Term! The Sapphires have come back well - rested and ready to learn!
These last two weeks have been jam-packed. The Sapphires have started a new book called The Explorer by Katherine Rundell and have completed some guided reading activities including thinking about the theme exploration and what you would need to survive in the Amazon jungle. The writing has also been linked to The Explorer as the children are currently writing narratives on disasters. They can choose which disaster they want to write about whether this is a tsunami, an earthquake or a plane crash. The Sapphires are ensuring their writing is cohesive using conjunctions and adverbials to support this. It is wonderful to see the range of ideas the children have regarding this.
In Maths, the children have revisited 2D and 3D properties including nets. They can read coordinates in 4 quadrants and have enjoyed using multi-link cubes to learn about volume. The Sapphires are currently revising time ensuring they can convert between 12 hour and 24 hour and read analogue and digital clocks.
In Science, the Sapphires have started to investigate Evolution and Adaptation. They worked scientifically and researched a range of plants labelling them for their adaptations. The school nurse has been in this week and the children were very sensible listening to information about puberty and asking questions. In RE, the Sapphires have investigated a range of charities and considered what they do to help the world. The children are beginning to learn how to create vector drawings in Computing.
It has been wonderful to start learning about the ‘Marvellous Maya’. The children have mapped out countries which were associated with the Maya, they have tasted a range of Maya foods (the chillies got mixed reviews!) and this week they have researched and written about a range of Maya artefacts. In Art, the children have evaluated some pieces of Maya art work and are creating their own stelas relating to their own lives. Last Friday, the Sapphires researched the Ancient Maya game of Pok A Tok, wrote instructions on the game and then had a go at playing Pok A Tok – it was very difficult but fun!
Thank you to Mrs Beadle for taking the children on Monday afternoons for some outdoor learning. All the children absolutely relish this opportunity. On Monday 22nd April, we are excited to part in Earth Day with the rest of the school and we are hoping to go on a litter pick up and find out more about plastic pollution.
Finally, well done to the Year 6 children for continuing to try their best as we prepare for the SATS starting Monday 13th May. From Wednesday 17th April, the Y6 children will be able to use a programme called LBQ (Learning by Question) and this will further support the Y6 children as they prepare for the SATs.
Please keep reading on seesaw and practising spellings at home!

Little Pearls Nursery
We would love it if you could share our nursery advert as widely as possible and the easiest way to do this is liking our Facebook page and inviting your friends to this. You can also follow the nursery on Instagram.
At a time when we have seen local schools closing their nursery we want to ensure the long-term future of ours by ensuring that numbers remain consistent so that we can also keep costs low to you.
Thank you for your support.
