Fourth Grade History Bowl
On Tuesday, Valley Fourth Graders, competed against each other in teams in the annual Fourth Grade History Bowl. This history bowl was created by the Southwest Virginia 4-H Educational Center
The winning team, The Eyes of History, will get to advance to a county wide history bowl to compete against all other fourth grade teams in Washington County. There were 3 teams of 4 with one student acting as the Captain. Captains are chosen by their teammates and the captains main job is inspiration and leadership. All students could buzz in to answer questions, but in the event of a bonus round the captain would be the only one who could buzz in to answer. There are so many wonderful aspects of the History Bowl for the students, such as: the students learn to work as a team, they get to learn and research Virginia's history in a more in depth way, and they learn how to compete in a competition that is academic and not athletic. Thank you to the teachers, staff, students, and guardians who worked to make this History Bowl happen. Thank you to Crystal Peak, Phil Blevins, and Bailey Dotson for the work they have done with Washington County 4-H programs at Valley. If you see our competitors please tell them "Congratulations" on their hard work.
Emory and Henry Signed A Valley All Star
It is not very often you get the chance to see the signing of future academic leaders like athletes, but last night we got to see Mrs. Amanda Barker sign with Emory and Henry College to obtain her degree in teaching. Mrs. Barker will start her teaching program called, "Grow Your Own" in May. This program provides grant and works to inspire local community members to become teachers in their communities. Mrs. Barker has worked for Valley since 2022 as a substitute, she was then promoted to classroom aide, and has volunteered since 2019 when her oldest started school here. We are so proud of all the work hard work Mrs. Barker has done and will continue to do.
