February T.O.U.G.H. Students of the Month
Wyly Perez Morales is the student of the month for the Class of 2027. Wyly was nominated twice in February. The first came from Ms. Dennis, who reported that he “was a huge help this week in understanding the diverse needs of our class and assisted me with technology needs for students in our class. He always jumps to help others without a second thought.” Later in the month, Mrs. France commented that Wyly “is always willing to help his classmates in math class. He is patient and kind when working with others. He goes out of his way to check on others to make sure they are understanding.” These comments show that Wyly understands diversity, goes above and beyond, and has heart! Wyly’s favorite teachers so far have been Mrs. Carels and Mrs. Ennals because “they are always helping me so I know what to do.” He also likes Gym because “we get to play games with other people and my friends.” After Colonel, Wyly wants to join the Air Force because he believes “it would be a good job and you get to travel all over the world.” For him, the most important part of being TOUGH is understanding diversity. Wyly explains, saying: “I like to help my friends and I like it when they help me understand.”
FUN FACT: Wyly is very competitive in soccer and wants to play for CRHS next year!
Max Zapata Otalvaro is the student of the month for the Class of 2026. This nomination was sent in by Mr. Newberry, recognizing Max for every aspect of our TOUGH motto. Mr. Newberry said, “Max has shown he is Colonel TOUGH as he led his team to have a successful carnival game design. He has been pushing hard to obtain his goals to make sure he gets his work done on time. He isn’t hesitant to ask questions and is a role model for the other students in the class!” Mr. Blachfield ranks as Max’s favorite teacher so far because “he is very understanding, always offers help when needed, has patience, and is a very genuine down to earth guy, one of the best teachers I could have asked for.” For Max, the most important part of being Colonel TOUGH is “Including everyone and treating EVERYBODY with lots of respect.” For plans, Max hopes to study the field of Radiology at Boston College, continue to pursue one of his sports there, and live in the city after graduating college.
FUN FACT: Max plays basketball and soccer!
Justin Wallace is the student of the month for the Class of 2025. Justin was nominated by Mrs. Burkett for working to achieve his goals. She said: “I am beyond proud of Justin Wallace! Justin has already earned credit for English 11 but has chosen to take AP Language & Composition as an elective to encourage and support himself to meet his goals! Justin has set high expectations for himself and created a plan in which he can hold himself accountable for his success. These goals and actions show the vast amount of intellectual and emotional maturity that Justin possesses. I am beyond honored to be his English teacher for another semester!” Justin was also recognized in February by the Cafeteria staff for “showing respect and treating the staff with kindness.” Justin’s favorite class at CRHS is math because he’s good at it and it’s fun. When it comes to his favorite teacher, that’s Ms. Daffin because “she keeps class fun but I also learn a lot of things.” In the future, Justin wants to go to college for cheer and business administration. In Justin’s words: “To be colonel TOUGH is to show school spirit and listen to all the colonel rules. The most important part is to Understand Diversity.”
FUN FACT: Justin is a Colonel Cheerleader, a “pretty good cook” and a Pisces!
Bradley Andrew is the student of the month for the Class of 2024. Bradley was nominated by three different teachers. Ms. Bradley gave him a shoutout for obtaining goals, saying “Despite only joining CRHS chorus this past fall, Bradley went above and beyond and made Senior All Shore Chorus! This is an auditioned group of singers from across the Eastern Shore and is highly competitive.” Mr. Shaheen commented “Bradley is always eager to learn in Strength and Conditioning. He goes above and beyond by asking questions and actively participating.” Lastly, Ms. Towers mentioned that “Bradley has shown great initiative in Psychology! He is always willing to participate when questions are asked and to lend a helping hand!” He is really working to obtain his goals! When asked about his favorite teacher, Bradley gave a very diplomatic answer: “In all honesty, I like all of my classes and all of my teachers. They are kind and supportive.” After graduation, Bradley wants to work for the Department of Defense or the DEA. Bradley had some very insightful thoughts about being Colonel TOUGH: “In general, I believe that TOUGH means that you are kind, respectful, studious and always trying your best. Being kind is the most important part for me. Kindness is a rare commodity these days.”
FUN FACT: Bradley loves Star Wars, history, singing and dancing, and military technology. He also has a Tiktok account with over 14.7k followers!
