What We LOVE About Clayville!
There's so much to love about Clayville! As we wrap up January and enter February, we're taking stock of all the things we love about our school and community so that we can celebrate them. Share your thoughts here in an optional Google Survey: https://forms.gle/eThwinUCyuzdSJtq9 Students will have a chance to answer similar questions in school in the coming weeks.
January marked our first official end-of-the-month Community Celebration, which we're looking to make a regular montly event going forward. The entire school gathered in the gymnasium where we were joined by storyteller Muriel Johnson (learn about her here: link) from Rhode Island Black Storytellers. What a treat!
Looking forward, we have four plans I'd like you to be aware of:
1. We're looking to roll out more before and afterschool programming in the next 6 weeks -- stay tuned for updates and start thinking about whether you'd be interested in volunteering!
2. Surveyworks has launched! So far, we have had 60 families participate in only a few days! Our goal is 100% particpiation. Participants will be entered to win a $25 Moosetracks Gift Card!
3. We've added two new dates to our Clayville Family Calendar -- a Clayville Community Celebration during the school day Thursday, Feb. 15th and Arts/STEAM night, which is officially scheduled for Thursday, June 6th from 6-8pm. The evening will include a book fair, a chorus concert, and more.
4. Lastly, two requests. First, please keep slime, dragons, and other toys at home. These should not come onto the bus or into the school. Second, we love sending kids outside whenever possible, but need your help. Please send weather-appropriate gear (coat, gloves, hat) and foot ware (snow boots). We will make an effort to get kids outside whenever it is safe and feasible. Thank you!

Questions that Get Clayville Students Talking:
Questions you can ask about specific Clayville experiences/details that will hopeful get your kids to open up more about school:
1. Did you have a favorite story from the storyteller visit? (K-3) OR Did you notice anything the storyteller did that made her really effective or engaging? (4-5) *Students might have noticed repetition, vocal cadence, call and response elements, or onomonopia and sound effects.
2. I heard you're getting some indoor recess updgrates. Tell me what's new!
3. Sounds like you're going to have some before and afterschool activities soon. Will you sign up for the book club? Read alouds? Mindfulness? Should I reach out and ask if I can volunteer?
