April 8th-ELEARNING DAY-Total Eclipse
Parents on Monday, April 8th will be an E-Learning Day for all SCS schools due to the Total
Eclipse. Teachers will send home Ipads on Friday, April 5th and assignments will be posted on
April 8th. Please work with your child to complete these assignments. Attendance for the E-
Learning Day will count and will be based on students logging in and completing assignments
that have been assigned. Teachers will also send home any passwords or information that will
be needed for this day. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child's
teacher.
A Note from our School Social Worker
Dear Coulston Families,
The elementary schools at SCS will be recognizing Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention
month in April this year. It’s important to spend time talking about Child Abuse Awareness and
Prevention for all of our students, as well as letting families know about the events taking place
at school!
These activities include:
● Students in grade K-2 will read the story, Do You Have a Secret?, to help them
understand the difference between secrets that are okay and not okay. Students in
2nd grade will receive a copy of the book to take home.
● Students in grades 3-5 will hear the story of how the pinwheel reminds us that
childhood should be safe and fun for children.
● On Wednesday, April 3rd, representatives from various organizations that help
children feel safe will be at school at the beginning of the day to greet students.
Organizations that may be here are SPD, SFD, CASA, Firefly, Youth Assistance
Program, etc.
● Also, on Monday, April 1st, we are asking students and staff to wear blue to show
their support to preventing child abuse, this is a community wide initiative to go
blue!
● Lastly, April 11th, ten 4th grade students from Coulston will travel to the courthouse
to participate in a community event to recognize Child Abuse Awareness and
Prevention Month.
We’re excited to partner with organizations in our community to promote safety for children as
well as to reinforce the importance of child abuse awareness and prevention. We hope you and
your child(ren) find the program helpful.
Dental Safari
The dental safari will be returning to Coulston on Wednesday, April 3rd. If you need more
information or would like your child to participate, please visit the website
www.dentalsafariforms.com. More information is also attached to the newsletter.
Book Fair
Our book fair will begin Monday, April 1st. We are excited about the BookFair at Coulston.
Please see below how to get sign up for a Book Fair eWallet account for your child to spend
money at the BookFair as an option.
Comets Support SCUFFY
Our school will be having some fundraisers in April to help support SCUFFY! So be on the
lookout for our SMENCIL and Popsicles sale that will be happening in the next few weeks!
Thanks in advance for your support.
We also want to congratulate our SCUFFY Kickball team for placing 2nd in the district-wide
kickball game on Thursday. Thanks to the Comet Cheer Block that came out and supported the
Coulston Team!
Kindergarten Open House
Kindergarten Open House will be on Thursday, April 4th at Shelbyville Middle School from 5:30-
7:00. Please join us for several community resources tailored to your incoming kindergarten
student. Come and connect with community organizations and local schools. Come and tour a
school bus, register for a free library card, get information on the free summer lunch program,
and several other opportunities. There will be fun activities for your child while you browse
through all of the community resources. We hope to see you there!
PTO Elections
Calling ALL parents! It is that time of the year again that we are looking to elect officers for the
2024-25 Coulston PTO. If you would like to serve on the Coulston PTO or in any capacity, please
complete the PTO form that will be coming home with your child. This form will also be
uploaded on our Facebook page.
New officers will be elected at the April 23rd meeting at 6:30PM in the cafeteria. If you have
any questions, please contact our current PTO President, Aleigha Simerly.
We want to thank our hardworking PTO cabinet for serving Coulston for many years. Their
dedication to our Coulston Family is greatly appreciated.
Transportation Reminder-Please Read
Thank you for helping us with the transportation requests. This has helped us tremendously to
make sure that we are getting students safely home after school!!!!
We are asking that any requests for a transportation change be submitted to the office no later
than 1:30 pm daily. A reminder that requests must be consistent throughout the week,
meaning that the pick-up and/or drop off address remains the same all week. Also please know
that once a student has been put on the bus in the afternoon, we are not able to remove them
to go to the car rider line. This process delays our buses from departing school on time to run
their elementary route and arrive on time for their secondary route. If your child needs to be a
car rider for that day, please call the office and inform the office before 1:30 and make sure
that your child has a car rider tag. It is also important you call the office for ANY changes to
transportation and not the classroom teachers, this includes walkers and car riders.
Fridays have also become a heavy end of the day pick-up in the office. If you could please pick
your child up in the car rider line, that will help eliminate the high volume in the office. If
you require an additional car rider tag, please call the office and we can provide it for
you.
Thanks in advance for your understanding and assistance with transportation.
