February 28, 2024
Primary Bears,
We want to take a moment to better explain our attendance procedures. At the Primary and Intermediate, attendance is taken at 9:30 am. This is the official time we capture our daily attendance and submit to Texas Education Agency for our funding. Once a student gets to Junior High and High School, attendance is taken each class period- so 8 times a day.
A common misconception has to do with "excused" absences. Excused doesn't mean the absence goes away. The student wasn't in the building, so the student is absent. For the sake of filing truancy with the court system, excused and unexcused matters, which is why we ask you to send in a note within 3 days.
A third important piece about attendance.... A student cannot miss more than 15 school days. (Excused OR unexcused) What this means for you? It is important to sparingly keep your student out of school for vacations, hunting, sports events, etc. Save days for actual sickness. The 15 days add up quickly!
Let us know if you have any questions.
Have a great day!
Sincerely,
Shelley Keck
Principal
La Vernia Primary Kinder-2nd grade Field Day 2024: Permission Slips!
Dear Parents and Guardians of Kinder, 1st, and 2nd grade students:
This year we are hosting Ninja Anywhere for our annual Field Day! This unforgettable ninja event will be on April 11, 2024. I have included a link to their website so you can watch an awesome highlight video of their activities. Please take a couple minutes to watch it and then scroll down to complete their waiver. A waiver is REQUIRED to participate in the upcoming events and I definitely don't want to be the one who has to inform you/your child that he/she can not participate because they don't have a waiver completed!
This event is only for La Vernia Primary Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd graders. PREK will be held on April 19.
Children who are not LVP students in these grades will NOT be allowed to participate.
Look for a separate email on your child’s event time for that day.

Gather those Nickels! Wax Museum February 28! Enter on GYM side of Building Tonight!
If you plan to attend our 2nd grade wax museum, please bring a baggie of nickels! You will walk to each "character", drop a nickel in their bucket, and the character will come to life. It is one of our favorite events!
The nickels are then used to purchase an item such as a bench or campus beautification item donated in the name of the 2nd graders. It is a way for our 2nd graders to leave their mark on Primary as they move on to Intermediate.
Enter through the gym side- 6-7:30 pm Today!
Solar Eclipse Glasses
If you forgot to send your Solar Eclipse glasses back, please do so soon! The Solar Eclipse is April 8 during the school day and we want your child to be able to safely view. Teachers will be reaching out to those of you that haven't sent them back. Students who do not have glasses will NOT go outside on April 8.
If you have access to purchase more glasses, we appreciate any donations for students who did not return theirs. Donations may be made to the front office.

Reading Everyday
Does your child read at home? Students who only read at school do not make the academic gains that their peers do who read each evening at home. If you need books for home, please reach out to your child's teacher, Mrs. Saulter, or our Intervention Team and we will help you out! Help your child make the year's worth of growth in reading by having them read each evening.
Attendance Matters
