Morning Dropoff
Bear Creek Parents,
We need your help! We continue to have issues with people using the bus circle during morning drop off. As a reminder, during morning drop off, the bus circle is reserved for students who require assistance from BCE staff and buses ONLY. We do not have enough staff to monitor this area in the morning and it creates an unsafe environment for our students. Students should be dropped off in the main circle drive each morning. If parents wish to walk their child in, they will need to park in the parking lot and escort their student up to the main door. We have communicated this message to all of our students. Please help us model being good citizens by following school policies.

SOCIAL STUDIES:
Unit 1: Embedded Assessment - Create a 51st state map and write an informational composition
Reflecting on students understanding of map skills, geography, and how geography affects settlement patterns (SS 8C), they will choose desirable landforms, physical features, vegetation, and climate to:
Apply to a new state that they create and design to become a part of the United States. This new state must be taken from land in Canada, Mexico, or one of the existing 50 states. Students should consider their purpose in the design of this new state.
Create a realistic map to illustrate this new state with some city locations (and population), including the location of a new capital city, physical features, landforms, etc. (SS 7B, 7C, 7D and 8C)
Include the following map features: a legend, scale, symbols, compass rose and any additional symbols the student deems important. (SS 6A) For example with symbols, students may create various dot sizes to represent different population ranges (example map that illustrates this idea - USA Major Cities by Population).
Include a multi-paragraph essay/piece of writing (see BOY writing prompt below) to accompany the map that conveys/describes information about the features, climate, and vegetation of this new state (ELA 18A, 20B and SS 7B). Maps MUST be realistic to help write this piece of expository text.
