Matthew Hoblin

Matthew is an eighth grade student at Briesemeister Middle School. Linda Guzman, AJB principal, reports that Matthew displays academic excellence, leadership, and a positive attitude. He truly exemplifies what it means to be an AJB Toro role model. Matthew is always willing to help his fellow students and teachers in any situation. Matthew leads by example in the classroom and in all of his extracurricular activities, which include Student Council president, theater, football, baseball, and basketball. Matthew’s parents are Katherine and Thomas Hoblin Jr.

Melina Sanchez

Melina is an eleventh grader at Mercer Blumberg Learning Center. She has a great attitude and is a hard worker. Melina is always planning for her future and has plans to go to college after graduation. She diligently prepares for her end-of-course exams and prioritizes earning her credits. She is always smiling and has a fantastic attitude. Everyone at MBLC loves to have her in class and her teachers and Principal Jay Law are proud to nominate her for this recognition. Melina’s parents are Priscilla and Jose Jimenez.

Gabriel (Gabe) Soliz

Gabe is an eleventh grader at Seguin High School. He is a hard working, high achieving junior pursuing his associate's degree as well as his high school diploma. While he is in the top 10 percent of his class, he has been a member of the Seguin High School powerlifting team since he was a freshman. He is a regional qualifier, has perfect practice attendance, and is respectful to peers and adults. In his spare time, he is busy as the owner of a power washing company to save up for his future. He is a pillar in the community, participating in many service projects. After graduation he plans to join his brother at Texas A&M University at College Station. Gabriel’s parents are Amanda and James Aultman.

Chelsea Long

While Chelsea has been with Seguin ISD, she has made a tremendous impact as a member of the Matador Family. She works with students, teachers, parents and administrators to develop quality behavioral programs to help students participate fully in classrooms across the district. This member of the Matador Special Services team is a champion for all students and has a passion for meeting the needs of the students and families that she serves. Recently, she has eagerly accepted the task of spearheading the Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) Program which provides interventions and support to all students in need of academic or behavioral services. Chelsea strives to meet each student where they are and helps them grow from there. She is a true advocate for all kids. She is a passionate Matador and has been instrumental in recruiting others to join the Matador Family.

The Seguin ISD StarSteppers blew everyone away with their incredible performances at the National Crowd Pleasers competition in Hawaii! Three of the team members presented about their experience at the Board Meeting. Congratulations for putting Seguin ISD on the national map! The Starsteppers completed the competition with the following accolades:

Mark your calendars for April 25, 26, and 27, and let's show our unwavering support for our team as they take on this exciting challenge - they will be playing in San Marcos. Together, let's cheer them on to victory!


Speaking of softball, Camryn Rios, a junior standout on the Matador Softball team, has undoubtedly left her mark on the season this year. In a remarkable display of skill and determination, Camryn smashed three consecutive home runs and drove in an impressive seven RBIs during a flawless 4 for 4 performance in the Matadors' victory against Boerne Champion, all achieved within six innings of play. This stellar showing not only secured a memorable win but also catapulted Camryn to a new level of recognition as she now holds the esteemed title of the school's record holder for home runs, boasting an impressive total of 15.

The Board of Trustees recognizes positive campus-based activities, initiatives, and accomplishments during a board meeting to apprise the many activities that contribute to a nurturing academic environment in Seguin ISD schools. Linda Guzman and her administrative staff shared a presentation that highlighted campus goals and how they relate to their strategic plan, along with a new construction update.

Elizabeth Oaks

We are excited to announce Elizabeth Oaks as our new Chief Financial Officer. Ms. Oaks brings with her 13 years of experience in school finance, most recently serving as the Chief Financial Officer of La Vernia ISD. Her expertise in operations oversight, bond sales, and federal programs will be a valuable addition to our district. "I am extremely honored to welcome Ms. Oaks to the Matador team; she comes highly recommended and is eager to build upon the successes of our strong business team and overall community," stated Dr. Veronica Vijil, superintendent. Ms. Oaks is dedicated to lifelong learning and is committed to ensuring that our staff have the resources they need for student success. We look forward to welcoming Ms. Oaks to the Matador Family.
