Dear South Burlington High School Community,

As August draws to a close, I want to extend a welcome to the new school year. As you may know from Superintendent Nichols' earlier communication, I will be serving as Acting Principal while Patrick Burke is on medical leave. I am also pleased to announce that Maryellen Schaefer will be joining our Admin Team in addition to her role as the English Language Arts Curriculum Area Supervisor. Meg Hughart and I are grateful for Maryellen’s support and are confident that her experience will be invaluable.

This newsletter will be used once or twice a month to share important updates and information with students and families. We encourage you to stay engaged with our website, which is regularly updated, and to download our accompanying app. We also welcome any feedback you may have to help us improve our communication.

As we kick off the 2024-25 school year, our focus will be on being present. In a world that is constantly changing, it’s important to be where your feet are. To support this theme, I will be sharing updates next week on our new cell phone policy and procedures, which are designed to enhance student engagement and connection to learning and our community.

Please find below some important dates and links. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out. We are excited to welcome our 9th graders and new students on Friday, August 23rd, and the entire school community on Monday, August 26th.

Student schedules will become available in your PowerSchool student and parent portals on Wednesday, August 14. We will send an email to all students and families with important information about the schedule and instructions and timeline for requesting changes at that time. Stay tuned and be sure to check your email on Wednesday.

The SBHS Counseling team is excited to welcome Aquilas Lokossou, our new school counselor. In addition, as you may know, Meghan Sweet has returned to her role as Director of School Counseling. Students can view their assigned school counselor in PowerSchool.
