Attention FamiLEE! One of our 2023-24 goals is to keep our overall attendance rate at 95% or higher for the entire school year. We were at 94.08% last week are currently at 94.33% for the year. We need your help to continue to improve and reach our goal! Attendance is one of the most important factors that influences how students do in school, and we need each student with us at school every day!!!

Theatre Magnet Director- Mr. Kisor
This past week we opened our first spring blackbox show, Antigone Now. It was a huge success and was well attended and received. The students worked very hard on this show and their performance was very impressive.
We are also fully underway with Little Mermaid rehearsals! Progress is going well, also we will have the whole show blocked and ran fully by the end of this week!
The Theatre Management class is working on Strategic Planning this week, researching different theatre companies around the country and how they operate, all the different elements and departments of a company and working together to create a mission statement for Lee High’s Magnet program.
Musical Theatre is working with the Show Choir class on multiple pieces. One piece that we are working on together is Something to Point to from the musical Working. Blocking for this piece will begin this Thursday and Friday
Vocal Magnet Director- Ms. Daniel
Congratulations to all that participated in the Evening of Spirituals, Chaffee Elementary Black History Program, Soul Cafe, St. Rebecca Black History Program, and Lee High School/New Century Black History Program this month. Each of you presented an amazing performance. Shout out to N’General for our Black History performance Duo. It is so great to have a live band to accompany us! Also, thank you to Ryan Felton and Chelsea, Who?, Curtis Jordan, Tyler Gardner for their partnership during our Soul Cafe
Torin Kyembe has been working relentlessly on several solo performances! His first gig was this past Sunday.

Instrumental Director- Mr. Pearson
- Greetings and Happy Friday! This has been an amazing couple of weeks for the Lee High Instrumental Magnet.
- On Wednesday, all of our Music Production Apps were uploaded to the iMac computers! The students are now ready to create their own music. Next, Finale MakeMusic software will be uploaded so they can begin creating their own arrangements and compositions.
- This past week our student-led band, N’General, performed for the State of the Schools at the Jackson Center and the City of Huntsville’s Black History Program at the Bob Harrison Center. This evening, they will be performing for jazz saxophonist Najee at the Alabama A&M Event Center.

Director of Technical Theatre- Ms. Campolongo
- Hello!! We are in full swing with the build for the Little Mermaid. This past week, students finished up their coral projects. We are now fully focused on finishing the Little Mermaid. Students are expected to go on the link for the Sign up genius and sign up for work calls. They need 2 after school work calls or one full weekend work call before spring break and another 2 after spring break. Students are expected to complete the full work call or make up the time that they missed.
- We are working hard on Little Mermaid and building as fast as we can. The corals from the Coral Project will be used for the set. Here is a picture of students working during an after school work call.
Dance Magnet Director- Mrs. Hunkapillar
- DME Major Company performed this week for our Black History Program! Their performance was beautiful as always! Proud of all the dancers!
- We had our yearbook pictures this week as well! Love these kids-they had a great time setting their poses for the pictures!
- Next week, Wednesday, March 6 during 2nd block DME-the Minor company will have their Major/DMElite Company auditions. Students are to wear their black dance attire for the audition. Their hair should be up in a ponytail or a bun. They may wear socks if they choose to. Next week the Major company is beginning their senior pieces. Each day one of the seniors will be working on their choreography in the studio. Each senior will have one day next week to work. On Thursday will be our “Full out Friday” rehearsal and one of our Media Arts students will be filming their rehearsal class for our concert videos. Friday is an E-Learning day.
- If your student is in the production of The Little Mermaid, we are having an all day rehearsal here in the theater. Exact times will be announced in our Mermaid GroupMe.

Visual Arts Magnet Directors- Mrs. Johnson and Ms. Radowski
- Painting- Working on personal still life paintings
- Drawing - working on oil pastel self portrait or landscape in a surrealistic manner.
- Thank you to our seniors for assisting in our Black History Month painting. A Harlem Renaissance styled painting celebrating, life, movement, music and color.
Photography Magnet Director- Mr. Willmarth
- New supplies came in to resume the Photo Etching Project and the students are really engaged with using the combination of old technology and new.
- Several Photo Magnet students will have work in the Children’s Gallery at the Huntsville Museum of Art from Monday, March 4 until the end of April
Film and Video Director- Mr. Lee
- Next week, March 5th is our on location filming at Forced Induction in Hazel Green. The company Math Nation has agreed to make a donation to our program in exchange for filming and editing their latest math lesson. Have an extra hair dryer lying around? We’re embarking on an exciting journey to fuse ART and SCIENCE in our classrooms, and we need YOUR help!
We’re seeking donations of heat guns and hair dryers to bring our projects to life. Whether it’s for crafting beautiful art or conducting fascinating experiments, your contribution will make a huge difference.
How You Can Help:
• Drop Off: Bring your heat guns or hair dryers to the front office, attention: Mr. McDonald.
• Student Delivery: Students can deliver them directly to Mr. McDonald, Room 116, in the science department.

Senior Class Of 2024 Information
Attention Seniors! The Huntsville Council of PTAs annually awards up to 12 (twelve) $500 scholarships (a maximum of two scholarships per high school in the Huntsville City Schools system) provided such schools are in good standing with the Huntsville Council of PTAs and with Alabama PTA.
- Scholarships are awarded to Huntsville City School seniors who plan to pursue higher education at any accredited institute of higher learning, including vocation and trade schools as well as two-year and four-year universities/colleges.
- The funds for these scholarships are raised through the contributions of our local units and concessions at Milton Frank Stadium.
