Inside Centennial Schools
March 28, 2024
Connecting. Achieving. Preparing.
Connecting with Our Communities and Planning for the Future
An input team of around 60 community members, parents, and staff give feedback on options to address the challenges and opportunities the district faces today and in the future through a long-range facilities planning process. The District hosted input team meetings in February and March to present ideas, and share building and site concepts. Look for updates and information in future issues of Inside Centennial Schools, The Observer and on the Centennial website..
Centennial is on the Hill
Superintendent Holmberg testified at the Minnesota Capitol in support of House File 4117 regarding Local Optional Revenue and Equalization. This bill promotes greater property tax fairness.
Since our community is primarily residential, tax relief is our top priority.
Community Education Director Cori Sendle and staff visited Sen. Kreun and other elected officials on Minnesota Community Education Advocacy Day to discuss issues crucial to community education.
Centennial High School Student and City of Centerville Jr. Council Member Avery Sauber, Centerville Mayor Love and council members, and City Administrator Statz attended City Day on the Hill. Sauber also had the opportunity to meet Gov. Walz.
Delivery Day
Before the snow arrival, three manual Sharp mills were delivered to Centennial High School. The mills were purchased using funds from Perkins and through the support of industry partners, and they will be used in the school's manufacturing pathway courses.

From the Wellness Committee...What are Functional Foods?
What do the following grocery items have in common?
- Orange juice with added calcium
- Butter with added plant sterols
- Water with added vitamins
- Milk with added vitamin D
- Salt with added iodine
They are all fortified foods, or foods that have had nutrients added to them that were
never present to begin with. Typically, these foods focus on nutrients that many people struggle to get enough of in their diet. Fortified foods are one category of functional foods that are widely used as marketing tools within the food industry. Pay close attention to food labels and ingredient lists to understand the health claims. Focus on those that are nutrient-dense, minimally processed, and have ingredients that support good health. Centennial's Wellness Committee promotes student and staff wellness, focuses on the prevention of and reduction of childhood obesity, and assures that school meals and other food and beverages sold, and otherwise made available on the school campus during the school day, are consistent with applicable minimum local, state, and federal standards.
