Summer is coming, what do I do with my band student?
As the school year enters the final chapter and students get antsy in anticipation of summer sun and fun, now is a good time to start thinking about adding fun, music-related activities to your summer plans.
If you are renting your instrument from Music and Arts or the School, you will keep your instrument over the summer so they can play! Most of the School Owned instruments will be issued a different instrument for next year and we will do that before the end of school.
Below is information on summer lessons and summer camps to consider for your student to keep their skills fresh during the summer break and make life-long memories in the process!
LISD East Middle School Band Camp June 3-7
The largest middle school band camp in the district is back for the summer of 2024! Come join students from Killian, Creek Valley, Arbor Creek, Griffin, and Lakeview middle schools for a week-long, fun-filled musical experience.
Students will be divided into two bands based on grade level and learn new music in a clinic-style format. Think of it like band class but BIGGER and BETTER!
The camp also includes social activities and a special End-of-Camp Performance for parents and friends.
This year, camp is at Hebron High School!
Who: Any current band student
When: June 3-7, times based on band placement
(either 8:30 AM-12:00 PM for current beginners, or 1:00 PM-5:00 PM for current HW and Sym)

Summer Private lessons
If your student is taking lessons or would like to start taking private lessons, they can do so over the summer! Our entire private lesson staff is available over the summer for weekly lessons. Summer lessons are a great way to catch up on any fundamentals and even push ahead! We highly recommend summer lessons!
If you are interested in having your student take lessons over the summer, contact their teacher directly to set up a summer schedule. If you need contact information for lesson teachers, you can visit our website at www.creekvalleyband.org. If you would like to start private lessons for the first time, email Mrs. Cooley and a lesson teacher will contact you to set up the first lesson!
Creek Valley Summer Band
Please make plans to attend the Creek Valley Summer Band Camp on July 29-31 to help us prepare for next year! This will allow us to dust off those instruments and remember which end to blow in! We will start the school year off with a pep-rally and we want to make sure the kids are ready to perform!

Honor Winds Induction Camp
All woodwind and brass students who are accepted into the 2024-2025 Honor Winds are required to attend Honor Winds Induction Camp!
Induction Camp will be held August 5-7 from 5:00-6:30 PM.
These three days will allow students to get a jump start on fundamentals for the Fall semester, as well as the All-Region scales and sight-reading preparation. The evenings will be broken up into sectionals and full band rehearsals, along with a break or social activity every day to provide some fun!
There is no registration necessary since this is a required event for all Honors Band students. Please reach out to Mrs. Cooley if you have a conflict.

The summer is a GREAT time to restock and order all of your child's essential instrument supplies! Click below for a complete list and links to order!
Other Summer Camps
Another exciting opportunity for your student are summer music camps! These multi-day events offer opportunities to work with renowned faculty and staff in world-class venues and facilities. Additionally, your student will get the opportunity to meet and perform with students from around the state who share the passion of music-making. Not to mention, summer music camps are a lot of fun!
Most camps have some level of financial commitment depending on the time frame and other factors. Below are several camps around our area that you may want to research. Many have great websites that give you all of the information you would need.
On a personal note, Mrs. Cooley and Mr. Lott participated in summer music camps all through middle school, high school and even college! These are a wonderful way to have fun in the summer and learn more about the instrument and the process of music-making!
