Highlights of the week
As the Easter Holidays draw near, our school has been active with meaningful engagements. Last week, our EDI student team led assemblies on the significance of Ramadan & Eid and on the Holy Weeks of Easter, fostering a time of reflection and mutual respect. We extend our best wishes to our Christian and Muslim communities during these significant periods. Our students are also preparing to present about and celebrate various other religious festivals soon, continuing our commitment to understanding and respect.
In addition, we have embarked on the pivotal process of selecting our new Head Boy and Head Girl. With 16 remarkable Year 10 candidates having submitted their letters of application and participated in interviews, the calibre of leadership and dedication they have so far displayed has made our decision-making process exceptionally challenging. Their passion and commitment to the roles have truly impressed us, reflecting the vibrant spirit and potential of our student body. We will announce the decision at our End of Term assembly.
Friday evening saw our GCSE drama students shine on stage, captivating an audience of family, friends, and teachers with their talent and confidence. Their performances were impressive, a reflection of their dedication and the solid support from Ms Green and Ms Thackeray. Congratulations to everyone involved for an outstanding job. Good luck for your GCSE performances on Monday and Tuesday this week.
A huge thank you to Ms Clarke and the whole English team and our teaching assistants who took almost every student from Year 10 to the Globe where they saw Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. The students thoroughly enjoyed the trip and represented the school wonderfully. So proud of you Year 10.
End of term
School closes at 3pm on 28 March for the 2 week Easter break. School will re-open for all students at 8:30am on Monday 15 April.
TS Spotlight
The latest edition of our TS Spotlight was written by our literacy lead Ms Charlton. It covers the topic of Reading for pleasure: A crucial key to your child’s success at school. You can read it here.
Design a National Book Token Competition
As part of World Book Day we encouraged pupils to take part in the ‘Design a National Book Token Competition’. The students were asked to create a book token design around the theme of ‘Read Your Way’. Competition entries have been posted this week including this winning design by one of our Year 7 students.
CPR training
Our very own Mr Ryan has been running CPR and defibrillator use courses after school. So far, 34 students have learned this lifesaving skill. We hope that they will never have to use it, but are thankful that they are well prepared if the occasion ever arises.
Y10 trip to the Globe Theatre
Year 10 enjoyed a trip to the Globe Theatre to see a version of Romeo and Juliet created especially for secondary school students in order to support their study at GCSE. There were lots of squeals of delight at the inclusion of BMX bikes and dancing! The students made thoughtful observations throughout demonstrating a wonderful knowledge and understanding of the text already.
PE Department
Year 10 Boys Football: Our Year 10 Boys football team displayed commendable performance in their recent match against Christ, showcasing their dedication and teamwork on the field.
Year 7 Girls Netball: The Year 7 Girls netball team exhibited determination and skill in their latest league match against St Richard Reynolds, pushing their opponents to the limit and demonstrating great sportsmanship throughout.
Rugby Success: Year 10 student Ellie Gunther showcased her prowess on the rugby field by scoring two tries for the Surrey County Rugby team against Sussex, highlighting her exceptional talent and dedication to the sport.
Skateboarding Experience: It was a memorable experience for over 90 girls who had the opportunity to explore skateboarding during PE lessons on Thursday, marking a significant milestone in their physical education journey.
Congratulations to all our students for their outstanding performances and dedication to sportsmanship. We look forward to more exciting achievements in the weeks to come.
