Black History Month
Black History Month. Every February, the U.S. honors the contributions and sacrifices of African Americans who have helped shape the nation. Black History Month celebrates the rich cultural heritage, triumphs and adversities that are an indelible part of our country's history. Each day, we will introduce you to one of America's pioneering black figures from history.
Phillis Wheatley (1753-1784)
The West African–born poet spent most of her life enslaved, working for John Wheatley and his wife as a servant in the mid-1700s. Despite never having received a formal education, Wheatley became the first African American to publish a book of poems, Poems on Various Subjects. However, she died before securing a publisher for her second volume of poetry and letters.

IF YOU NEED TO REPORT A THREAT, HERE'S HOW
FUN FACT I BET YOU DIDN'T KNOW!
I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream For Ice Cream!
19th-century chefs made ice cream in all kinds of flavors…like asparagus!
Oysters, asparagus, and parmesan cheese were all flavors of ice cream available in the early 1800s. Essentially it was frozen oyster chowder. They served it unsweetened, with the oysters strained out.
Would YOU try it??
