Highlights of the week
As we close another remarkably busy and productive week at Twickenham School, I am delighted to share some highlights that continue to make our community so vibrant and inspiring.
This Wednesday, we were thrilled to welcome back Humanutopia to work with all of Year 8, following their impactful session with Year 9 last week. Their sessions made a significant impact on our students, enhancing their personal and social development in truly meaningful ways.
In Geography, our Year 11 students have just concluded their GCSE fieldwork, which involved conducting surveys with unsuspecting daytime shoppers in both Whitton High Street and Richmond Town Centre. The professionalism and enthusiasm displayed by our students were exemplary, as they represented both themselves and our school brilliantly and we are sure added enormous value to their final GCSE results. Well done Year 11.
The echoes of music have filled the halls and corridors of our school, from the music room to the auditorium. Our music department has truly come alive with the sounds of flutes, pianos, violins, drums, guitars, and vibrant singing. It has been a particularly notable week for our GCSE music students, who completed their final performances and recordings for their coursework today—a proud moment for us all. In addition, our community languages students are currently undertaking their GCSE speaking exams. We extend our best wishes to all of them as they demonstrate their skills and hard work.
I was so proud to hear this morning that Twickenham School was represented so amazingly by Ehsan Khatani and Mihir Deshpande at the Richmond Young Enterprise Awards. Ehsan absolutely captivated the audience with his presentation and amazing stage presence. What was even better than achieving second place against St Paul's - the winner actually called Ehsan to the stage and humbly handed over his first prize of £50 to Ehsan - who everyone agreed was the true winner of the prize. The judges contacted me today to say how well they had done and what special young people they are. Well done boys! You are amazing.
"Helping Teens with....." by Achieving for Children
Achieving for Children’s Mental Health Support Teams are delivering a series of webinars for parents of secondary aged children and young people (CYP). The ‘Helping teens with …’ series of webinars will cover a range of common difficulties experienced by CYP and will aim to share evidence-based strategies to help parents and carers support their CYP with these difficulties. You can find the full timetable here.
Cover Story Year 7 and 8
Richmond Libraries ran a book review competition called Cover Story. Staff from the libraries came to the school in January to introduce the competition and share some of the fantastic new books that they rated as the top 40 teen reads of 2023/2024.
We are so proud to announce that one of our students, Kaya Scott, has won! Congratulations!
Young Enterprise
Twickenham Schools young enterprise business visited the regional finals with their business Naturally Gifted. Congratulations to the team on their marvellous pitch to the judges who were thrilled with their business acumen, presentation and the passion they showed for their business. Well done guys, you smashed it! A big well done to Ehsan Khatami who won runner up in the best presenter category trophy. You were amazing🏆
