Nurse's News
As we transition into the spring season, it's important to ensure all children stay healthy and engaged. Postural Screenings for Grade 5 students will be conducted in April. If you wish to opt your child out of the postural screening process, please email the school nurse jgoodwin@mpsd.org.
Seasonal Allergies: With the arrival of spring, many children may experience allergies triggered by pollen. Keep an eye out for symptoms such as sneezing, coughing, watery eyes, and congestion.
Healthy Eating: Encourage your child to maintain a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Packing colorful and nutritious snacks like fruits, nuts, and yogurt can help sustain their energy levels throughout the day. Don't forget to emphasize the importance of staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
Sun Safety: As the weather warms up, outdoor activities become more enticing. Remind your child to apply sunscreen before heading outside to protect against harmful UV rays. Encourage the use of hats and sunglasses for added protection, especially during peak sun hours.
Importance of Sleep: Ensure your child gets adequate sleep each night to support their physical and mental development. Establish a consistent bedtime routine and limit screen time before bed to promote better sleep quality.
If your child had any of the following symptoms today, please keep them home
Fever over 100 degrees (must be fever free for 24 hours without the use of tylenol or motrin to return to school)
Vomiting and/or diarrhea (if your child has had any vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours, they should not return to school)
Diagnosis of communicable disease such as strep throat or conjunctivitis (if diagnosed with a communicable disease and prescribed antibiotics, your child must not return to school until they have been on antibiotics for at least 24 hours
Any absences related to an illness that exceed 5 or more days must have a doctor’s note. If absence is due to a communicable disease or bone fracture, a doctor’s note is required the day the student returns to school and should include any restrictions.
If you have any concerns about your child's health, or illnesses that may occur during the school year, please notify the school nurse at 781-319-3985.
Remember, a healthy child is a happy and successful learner.
