EJMS Jaguar Weekly March 4 - 8
Keeping our School Community in the Know
From Principal Pickerill's Pen
EJMS Families,
We had an amazing Black History month celebration this past week. We are so proud of the students who stepped up to help plan and lead the events for our school.
Chromebooks
We have had an increase in damages occurring to student Chromebooks. We have shared a video with students on the morning news to address: how to handle a chromebook, why they should not take the bar off from the back, opening and closing without reason, and specific examples of intentional damage. Teachers will submit an office referral if they observe any of the following intentional damage such as hitting the screen or keyboard, swinging it or carrying it while it is open (Chromebook should remain closed while transporting), picking parts off, etc. Once students have a Chromebook that is damaged beyond repair or if they intentionally damage the device they will automatically move to becoming a day user only - this means their Chromebook will remain at school for day use, but is not permitted to go home with them any more while they are an East Middle student.
Please make sure you take an opportunity to speak with your child about taking care of these devices and the responsibility they have for keeping it in good working order.
Car line - Afternoon Pick Up
I have had several parents reach out with concerns about other cars avoiding the afternoon pick up line by driving into the parking lot. We want to make sure we keep everyone safe and prevent any accidents. As we head into the last ten weeks of school I wanted to send some reminders about afternoon pick up in the car line. Please help us out by abiding by each of these steps to get your child safely from school.
Please pull all the way forward until you reach the car in front of you or begin the car line.
Students will get in their car when it stops at the curb.
Once your child is in the car, please move to the left side of the car line and continue exiting out of the parking lot.
Students should not get into cars until after the car has reached the awnings and follow each of the previous steps by moving forward as far down the line as possible.
Note: we will not allow any student to cross the crosswalk to go into the parking lot until all cars have moved through the car line. We encourage all parents to get in line for pickup and use the system we have in place. If you still choose to pick your child up from the parking lot please know that they will not be released until all traffic is clear from the car line pickup area.
Spring Showcase - Monday, March 18th
We are excited to host our annual East Jessamine Middle Academic showcase for students and families on Monday, March 18th from 5:00-6:30 PM. Please find a time for you and your student to stop by and view all the incredible work we have to display this year. There will also be an opportunity to view student-led performances and even challenge your student's knowledge against yours. Our staff looks forward to welcoming you into our building and partnering with you to finish out our school year strong. We look forward to seeing as many East families as possible!
