Message from Mr. Imbusch
Dear students, staff, and parents/guardians:
“When we shield children from failure or choreograph success for them, we’re distorting the experiences they need in order to grow.”
– Madeline Levine, Ph.D.
One of the hardest things to do as a parent is to see your child struggling. Our instinct is to come to their aid; to fix the problem; to pave the way so that they might find success.
However, this success is short-lived. It lasts only until the next struggle, at which time the child expects you to come to their assistance again because they were denied the opportunity to persevere and find their own success. If this behavior is repeated, it can steal a child’s opportunity to mature into an independent young adult.
This reminds me of the story about The Emperor Moth.
Encourage the struggle so that they can, in turn, fly to great heights on their own.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Sincerely,
Stephen Imbusch
Principal
Ramadan
The Muslim holy month of Ramadan will begin on Monday, March 11 or Tuesday, March 12, depending on the sighting of the new moon. Students who observe Ramadan may spend their lunch time in the Media Center to avoid the food being served in the cafeteria.
WHS Marketing Students
The Marketing students traveled to Gillette Stadium on Monday 3/4 and pitched a variety of ideas to the NE Patriots' Marketing Department. Students prepared and presented multiple slideshows with ideas, suggestions, and solutions on such topics as: how to rebrand the team; to how to make Patriot Place more desirable to high school students. As a result of this experience, students were able to apply their classroom knowledge to the real-world and gain valuable feedback.

Love, Inclusion, and Trust (L.I.T)
Greetings Parents & Students!
I am excited to offer the LIT ( Love, Inclusion and Trust) program, a series of workshops and discussions for middle and high school students that aim to highlight identity development, student leadership, build self-confidence, and provide advocacy skills. This program will be held at the designated middle school from 2:35-3:30 pm and at the high school from 2:10-3:00 pm on the days listed below.

News from the World Language Department March 2024
The World Language Department is offering students the opportunity to earn the Massachusetts Seal of Biliteracy. The Seal of Biliteracy is an award given by a school
or district in recognition of students who have attained proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in two or more languages by high school graduation.
The Seal is awarded at two proficiency levels and can be used to communicate with academic institutions, employers, and the community that students are able to study, work, and engage with others in two or more languages. Students who meet the criteria for the Seal of Biliteracy will receive an insignia provided by the Department of Education to be affixed to their high school transcript. An application is available for juniors with testing dates in April. Interested students can talk to their World Language teacher or see Ms. Kay (room 1321 inside the language lab) to receive an application.

WHS Science Olympiad
After a long season competing in 5 regional events and one invitational, the Walpole High Science Olympiad team season has come to an end. Over the weekend, we competed in the Science Olympiad Massachusetts State Competition! Our 18 competitors put their scientific knowledge, engineering, and lab skills to the test against 70 teams from around the state!
Our competitors prepared for many different events spanning all fields of science, from Ecology and Fossils to Optics and Experimental Design, they studied and prepared. They designed, tested, and built three different devices, an air-powered launcher, a load-bearing tower, and a wind turbine.
We put up some great results this year!
Ariana Kreuzer and Aneesha Sirvella knocked out 48 teams to place 22nd overall in Geologic Mapping
Samantha Le and Ameya Gora competed in a lab based Forensics Event, defeating 49 teams and placing 21st overall.
Our Wind Power team of Valerie Hung and Paul Donlan competed to engineer the most efficient wind turbine. They put up a strong effort, placing 18th overall.
Two Freshmen competitors, Ramu Muthukaruppan and Kai Greer, did exceptionally well and came in 18th place in their first State Competition in Fossils!
Last but definitely not least, two of our outgoing Seniors, Cathy Furlong and Aneesha Sirvella defeated 68 other teams. They came in 2nd overall, and earned a silver medal in Ecology! They only missed out on gold by 2 points!
We have some strong talent in the wings with our underclassmen, but we’re definitely going to miss this Senior class next year, as they’re one of the strongest groups we’ve ever had!
WHS Speech and Debate
Congratulations to the WHS Speech and Debate Team for placing 8th out of 34 schools this past Saturday at Shrewsbury’s Mardi Gras tournament! The team now has one more regular tournament before the state finals!
