Writing Circle: Sharing Our Stories Through Memoirs
Based on conversations that have taken place in workshops and among cohort participants at the CTL, many of our JWU faculty and staff have fascinating stories to tell. If you’d like to share your story in a memoir (of any length) but don’t know where to start, or you’ve already drafted a memoir but would like feedback from your colleagues, consider joining the memoir writing circle. We will discuss the characteristics of the memoir genre, share our writing, and provide feedback to each other in a casual, supportive environment.
The group will meet on the first Tuesday of every month (April 2nd) from 4:00-5:00, and you can either join in person at the CTL or remotely via Zoom. If you want further information about the writing circle, email Karen Shea at kshea@jwu.edu.

This workshop addresses strategies that faculty can use when it comes to disruption in virtual and on- ground settings while maintaining control of their classroom. Faculty will also be provided with resources they can refer students to, including a review of the CARE Team process, Safety and Security, and uSucceed. The workshop will include real-life scenarios in which faculty will have to work as a team to address how to best handle each situation, concluding with a debriefing with Community Standards and Conduct.

Northeast OER Summit: A World Beyond Affordability
Katrina Herold, Ed.D, to Participate in a Panel Discussion about OER at JWU!
The Northeast Regional OER Summit is a multi-state collaborative virtual event for new and experienced OER advocates offering the opportunity to learn and share effective practices in awareness building, implementation, collaboration, strategy, and research.
Katrina will participate as a panelist in "A Conversation: Independent Institutions Weigh in on Course Marking" along with individuals from Roger Williams University, Thomas College, New England College, and St. John Fisher University.
Session Abstract: In 2023, four independent institutions with a Pell threshold of ≥ 27% were regranted funds from the New England Board of Higher Education (NEBHE) to support course marking implementation. Course marking, or tagging courses that utilize OER, low-cost, or other no-cost course materials provides students with the power and agency to make more informed decisions at the time of registration based on their financial situations and helps to amplify redistributive justice, making sure all students have the required materials they need to meaningfully engage and succeed in their courses. Panelists from Johnson and Wales University, New England College, Saint John Fisher University, and Thomas College will dissect and discuss their experiences implementing course marking at their respective institutions, addressing ongoing successes and challenges as well as showing a behind-the-scenes peek at their workflows. Panelists will leave time at the end to address attendee questions.
When: Thursday, April 4 – Friday, April 5, 2024.
Where: Virtual on Zoom.
Cost: $35.00 for those who register before March 28; $50.00 for those who register after March 28 and to the start of the event; always free for undergraduates.
Who Should Attend: People engaged in open education initiatives, including students, faculty, librarians, instructional technologists, administrators and other campus leaders.
