The Lee County Board of Education recently updated Policy 4138
The Lee County Board of Education recently updated Policy 4138 which regulates student use of cell phones and other wireless communication devices.
This update reinforces the existing cell phone rules our schools have in place, while expanding the definition of wireless communication devices, allowing principals to ban devices on testing days, and adding consequences for failing to turn over a confiscated device.
While focusing on instruction is important for students, we recognize that situations may arise during the school day when students need to communicate with their parents. Our administrators and teachers will make every effort to ensure that need is met in a timely and appropriate manner.
Please review the attached Q&A: Use of Wireless Communication and Other Electronic Devices, and share the information with your student.
Please contact your child's school if you have questions or need more information. rmd.me/KehYk8J8yhy
What does this mean at JRI?
Elementary and middle school students are not allowed to use cell phones and other electronic devices from the time of arrival on campus to the last bell for dismissal. Cell phones/electronic devices should be off and in bookbags at all times during the school day. No cell phones or electronic devices should be on campus on standardized testing days.

Information from Mr. Pienaar, AVID Elective Teacher at SLMS
As we prepare our students for the transition to middle school, I wanted to take a moment to introduce you to an exciting opportunity available at SanLee Middle School: the AVID Elective program.
The AVID Elective is a cornerstone of our commitment to college readiness and academic success for all students. It's designed to support motivated learners who aspire to attend college or future education and are willing to put in the effort to achieve their goals.
Here's a brief overview of what the AVID Elective entails:
Target Audience: The program is open to students who demonstrate a desire to pursue higher education and are capable of handling challenging coursework. While it's not limited to any specific group, we typically look for students with a solid academic record and a commitment to their studies
Curriculum: In the AVID Elective class, students learn essential skills such as organization, time management, critical thinking, and effective study habits. They also receive support from peers and college tutors, participate in enriching activities, and explore college and career opportunities.
Benefits: AVID students are placed on a college-bound and career readiness track, encouraged to enroll in rigorous courses, and provided with resources to help them succeed academically. Additionally, our school's AVID program has been recognized as a National Demonstration School, showcasing our dedication to excellence in college and career readiness.
Expectations: Students who join the AVID Elective are expected to commit to the program for at least 1 year at a time, in a 3 year program, actively participate in class activities, maintain good attendance and behavior, and strive for academic excellence(GPA 3.5 and A/B honor roll).

Please review school expectations with your students.
We kindly ask that you take a moment to review our school's expectations with your children regarding appropriate behavior on the bus, as well as in any other school-related settings. This includes following the instructions of bus drivers, maintaining respectful conduct towards fellow students, and adhering to any safety protocols in place.
By reinforcing these expectations at home, we can work together to create a safer and more conducive learning environment for everyone. We greatly appreciate your cooperation and partnership in this matter.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school administration.
