PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
I want to give a shout out to Ms. Barker and all of the kids who participated in this year’s Battle of the Books. This was the event’s 26th year! It is always great to see so many kids and families at an event that encourages and celebrates reading. All 26 of FMS’s participants had a great time and represented FMS well.
Next week is Taste the Rainbow Week!
Food service is ordering several different kinds of fruits and veggies for the students to select from during lunch and there will be some available in the cafeteria as well for those students who have home lunch. We are going to try and have as many kids and staff dress in the color of the day. This is designed to encourage students to try different kinds of fruits and vegetables.

The Mainsail Award
The Morse High School School Community Liaison Council (SCLC) has opened nominations for The Mainsail Award, which the SCLC has awarded since 1980. The Mainsail Award recognizes people who have made outstanding contributions to benefit the youth of the greater Bath community. In addition, nominees should exemplify the ideals of American citizenship such as respect, honesty, justice, individual freedom, and equal opportunity.
The nominee should have made a major contribution to the youth of the school district, though it may extend to the wider community, state, or nation. The individual should be a current or past resident of the greater Bath area. The Mainsail Award will be presented this year in a manner still to be determined!
Current Morse students, current SCLC community members, and current RSU1 employees are not eligible for the award. The SCLC gives preference to individuals (as opposed to a single nomination for a husband and wife, for example) and to Morse High School alumni. However, a joint award could be considered. The SCLC thoroughly reviews all applications and meets the challenge of selecting a recipient for the award with a sense of gravity and honor.
The deadline for nominations is Wednesday, April 10, 2024.
Direct questions to Kelsey Ortiz (kortiz@rsu1.org), SCLC Advisor.

Could Your Child Benefit from Mentoring?
When it comes to our children's future, we’re in this together. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bath/Brunswick pairs screened positive mentors with youth to create a community where all children achieve success.
We offer school-based mentoring, in which your child is matched with a trained adult volunteer who meets with them weekly at their school for lunch and recess.
We also offer community-based mentoring, in which your child and their Big meet to do fun things together on a schedule that works for them.
All our programs are free!
