LISD Expect Excellence Newsletter
January 9th, 2024
Hello Levelland Lobos. Welcome back. It is always so refreshing to return to work after a break.
I hope your holiday was spent in ways that are special to you and your family.
As you begin the new year, I wish you the best in all your endeavors.
Go Lobos!

Around LISD....before Christmas break.................
ABC Choir Performances
ABC shares these photos that will surely make you giggle like a bowl full of jelly! ABC students performed a beautiful choir concert all day one day before Christmas. Then everyone knew the reason for the season and was ready to meet Santa! Thank you to Joanna Forbes for the amazing job you do with all these littles.
Egg-Drop Experiment!
Right before the break, these LHS students in Mr. Bucky Demel's Physics class were caught participating in an experiment that challenged their STEM skills. Students had to use Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math skills to design and create the ideal egg container to protect an egg from breaking at a 20-foot drop. With this fun activity, Mr. Demel #expectsexcellence and reinforced many concepts, such as motion, force, energy, and the design process. Students left understanding physics concepts in theory and reality, and it was a fun lab experiment right before the holiday! Thanks, Mr. Demel, for keeping learning hands-on and fun!
Christmas Open House
Our LOC students held their Christmas Open House yesterday. They worked for weeks preparing all the items to be sold and eaten! Thank you to all the teachers that were involved. The students worked on their communication & customer service skills, collaboration and mathematical skills, and relationship-building skills during the event! Thank you to everyone who came out to buy and enjoy a nice Christmas treat!
Sing Along
Capitol Elementary School hosted their annual along before Christmas break with a packed house! We hope you had a Merry Christmas!
Did Your Heart Grow?
The Grinch was spotted all over LISD this month. He was arrested twice. And everyone's heart grew three sizes too! We hope you enjoyed your Christmas Break!

Santa Visit!
LMS Counselor Shayla Bruce shares that Santa was caught on campus visiting our kids before the break asking the question..............."were you naughty or nice?"
Christmas Cards
South students were caught in Mary Bara's Art class making Christmas Cards for their loved ones! There were many elements of art & learning involved in the lesson including spatial relations, paint, and spelling!
Lighting the Wallace
LHS is so glad that the Lobo Band took part in the lighting of the Wallace. Allycyn Keeling says that the 1928 Wallace had fallen into disrepair, but this lighting addition "is exactly what her father envisioned when he took on the feat of the Wallace Theater." Thank you to the community and the LHS band for the support of the Wallace Theater!
Technology Challenge
The LISD technology department shares that these teachers participated in the LISD Technology Bingo Challenge and were rewarded with a Starbucks drink from the Tech department. Our Lobo Tech Students helped bring my idea to fruition, and educators turned in some awesome submissions. Some teachers were challenged to try new technology in their classrooms, or participate in webinars to further their technology knowledge, while other teachers were able to show off what they are currently doing in their classrooms. The first Tech Bingo was a success and we are always proud that our educators are always learning!
Young Leader Stepping Up!
South Elementary third-grader Cheyenne Brown had an assignment to design a Christmas shirt. Her momma (Hayley Brown, LISD graduate) brought Cheyenne's design to reality by making the shirt she designed. Then Cheyenne said she wanted to try and sell some of the shirts, and all the proceeds from the sales she used to buy presents for kids who might not get presents for Christmas. Her Principal Mrs. Shelbi Eugenis and Counselor Mrs. Robyn Parkinson took her shopping to buy the gifts with the $350+. So if you see these Hot Chocolate And Hallmark Movie shirts around you'll know the story behind them! LISD is so proud of your shirt idea and your giving to others at Christmas! You are an amazing girl. South Elementary is lucky to have you as a student!
Sports!
Academic All-State Honors!
LHS Coach Leong and all the football coaches are proud to announce the Texas High School Coaches Association Academic All-State Recipients! We know our Lobos worked hard on the field, but this honor is for their work in the classroom! The THSCA Academic All-State Teams recognize senior high school athletes who excel in their GPA, class rank, and ACT/SAT scores. We applaud them for their commitment and dedication to perform with the highest of excellence academically and on the field. We are so proud of our guys! (Graphics in Video courtesy Coach Leong)

2024 New Year
Dancing into the New Year!
LMS always sets the morning up in a good way for kids. LMS educators Mr. and Mrs. Randol always help with that too, by dancing in as the music is played. What a great way to start the new year! We can't wait to see students tomorrow!
FFA Chapter Show
Levelland FFA held their Chapter Show over the weekend. Everyone learned a lot and are preparing for the County Show January 16-18.
Bill's Backpacks!
Cereal Cups
The item of the month is Cereal Cups!
BBP is always accepting donations.
It Takes a Village!
It takes a village! Levelland ISD has one, too! We send out a huge thank you to our LISD Maintenance/Grounds Crew for helping load all the extra Bill's BackPack boxes before Christmas. During the holidays, our food-insecure students received extra food to help sustain them through the time out of school. LISD appreciates the extra hands that pitched in to help make a difference for others and to get this task done!
