Decatur community,
April held up it's end of the bargain when it comes to the old saying. There were definitely April showers, but we'll just have to wait and see if the flowers come along. One thing's for sure, April showers canceled golf events and track meets, JH and HS alike, many now pushed to the already busy month of May.
JH/SH band and choir concerts, State Forensics, HS Awards Ceremony, JH Awards Ceremony, Baccalaureate, Graduation Rehearsal, Finals, Graduation, and the last day of school are all still bundled up into the last few weeks of school. That doesn't include the track meets and golf events that still exist for the remainder of the year.
The saying will always talk of "April" showers, but, in the education world, April may rain, but May pours.
Seniors, it's hard to believe that you are almost at the finish line, and all that you can think about is being done, but try to enjoy these last 8 days. There will come a day when you will wish you could go back and be right where you are now. You have 8 more.......
SHOUTOUTS
Shoutout to DCHS secretary Melissa Dreher. This past week was Administrative Assistant's Day, and I have to tip my hat to my secretary Mrs. Dreher. As a principal, the person you rely on the most is your secretary, and I am so lucky to have her in that seat. Melissa carries a positive attitude into the building every day, is extremely organized and knowledgeable, and she's got some great taste in music (70's/80's). She has helped make these past two years for me special, and I look forward to many more years with her as my left tackle (for those that don't get the reference, that's a positive).
Shoutout to the music department once again. Mrs. Tally, Mrs. Johnson, and Mr. Persinger have been very busy the past few weeks. April was a busy month for them, as they had a JH Music Festival, Regional Solo/Small Group Ensemble, Large Group Ensemble, field trip to a muscial, and finally the State Solo/Small Group Ensemble this past weekend. There has been so much preparation and weekend time for these groups. As it seemed like April showered them with events, with May springs the end of the year concerts. It's a busy time of year for them. Thank you for all that you do!
Shoutout to all of our music students that qualified for State music this past weekend.
Congratulations to all of these individuals and/or groups for receiving a I rating at State:
DCHS Singers
Weston Barnes - Vocal
Weston Barnes - Alto. Sax
Gage Williby - Vocal
Addison Mathews - Vocal
Michaela Wasson - Vocal
Michaela Wasson - Flute
Shoutout to Mr. Gehring's Intro. to Coaching class. In its inaugural year, we are finding out exactly what this class is all about, and this past week, each student was responsible for interviewing a person who was or had been a coach. I was interviewed by junior Jenna Fortin, and I was really impressed by the depth of her interview which included 13 questions. It's been a good experience for our students.
Shoutout to transportation director Brian Simonsson. Brian is retiring after this school year, and I know how hard he will be to replace. In a very vast district of roads and mud routes, Brian knows about every bend and every potential hazard that may come the way of any bus route in our district. He has done a great job of both maintaining our vehicles and organizing the transportation of students and staff to and from school and activites. Thanks to Mr. Simonsson for his years of service.
