Dear parents and carers.
It has been lovely to have everyone back in school this week. It would appear that the unpleasant illnesses that hit lots of families before Easter have moved on, and children have come back well-rested and raring to go!
The warm weather and sunshine has made for some lovely learning outside this week. Luther King class spent Monday afternoon outside creating their own cave paintings to launch their new topic on the Stone Age; they looked fantastic! Other classes have also made good use of our lovely school grounds to take their science and writing outside. As you may have seen, our field is still recovering from the installation of the ground source heat pumps last summer. We are waiting to have areas of it re-seeded, however they cannot do this if it is too wet. Sadly, the quantity of rain we have had lately has delayed this, however we are hopeful it can be done in the next few weeks. We are lucky to have a big playground, and other outdoor spaces we can make good use of, and sports day will go ahead later on this term as usual.
On Wednesday, children in years 2 - 6 had a session of cricket with coaches from Yorkshire County Cricket Club. They were ably supported by some of our older children who are part of Church Fenton Cricket Club, who showed great leadership when supporting the younger children.
One of the highlights of my week was watching our three librarians lead a whole school assembly on Thursday. They were keen to talk about how important it is that we look after our books, and to remind us that we are so lucky to have such a big space for our school library. It is such a lovely thing to see when children are passionate about what is important to them, and are keen to improve our school. They are in the process of recruiting for some more librarians to join their fantastic team.
Just a reminder that our door is always open, so please do get in touch if you have any concerns or questions, or feel we need to know about changes at home. It is so important that we work together to make sure our amazing children have the very best start.
Enjoy your weekends.

Message from Head Pupils
This week, KS2 participated in a cricket workshop where two coaches came in and taught us how to play along with fun interactive games. It was a fantastic experience and everyone was supportive and polite to everyone else. Other than that, all classes have come back to school with a fantastic attitude and have had a wonderful first week.
