Kids Heart Challenge Kicks Off!
Hello, Ellis School Families!
Our school is excited to announce that we have officially kicked off the American Heart Association Kids Heart Challenge!
Our students will be learning about staying strong in body and mind. We are asking for your help to reach our goal of 100% of our families learning the lifesaving skill of Hands-Only CPR. Please take a moment to watch this video of 5-year-old Phil and his mother, Megan. Earlier this year, they saved a life because they watched the Kids Heart Challenge Hands-Only CPR video.
Get started early and be the first at our school to complete Finn’s Mission!
- Register: http://www2.heart.org/goto/ellisschool or download the free “AHA Schools” app on your mobile device.
- Complete Finn’s Mission: Watch the 2-minute Hands-Only CPR video featuring cardiac arrest survivor, Damar Hamlin, and watch a music video on the warning signs of a stroke (F.A.S.T.).
- Share with Family & Friends: Send messages via social media, text messages and/or email.
I can’t wait to see our school create a community of lifesavers this year.
Thank you,
Hannah Kimball, Physical Education

After School Fun with Reader’s Theater
This after school program will be open to students in grade kindergarten through second grade. This will be a fun and engaging way for students to practice reading skills with their peers. Students will practice reading scripts, creating props and performing a skit to show off some of their skills at the end of the program.
This program will begin Monday April 1 and run for ten weeks. This program will be mostly Mondays with two Thursdays: April 1,8,15,29; May 6, 13 and 16/Thursday, 20 and 23/Thursday(dress rehearsal); June 3 (final presentation). The program will begin right after school. Student pick up time is 4:15pm at the front door of school.
There is a limit of ten participants! Please be sure your child can attend all sessions (barring illness) since there is limited space for this activity. Thanks!
If you are interested in your student joining, please email Ms. Smock at lsmock@sau83.org no later than Friday, March 22, 2024.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
As you know over the last 4 years we have been managing COVID-19 disruptions while following the guidelines put forth by the CDC. As the circumstances have changed our school has adapted. Our goal has always been to maintain the health and safety of our students and staff.
Recently the CDC has recommended some updated guidelines and at this time we feel that it is appropriate to follow those guidelines as well.
Moving forward COVID-19 will be treated as a respiratory virus the same way we treat flu and RSV. What this means for Ellis School: before returning to school your symptoms must be improving and you must be fever free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications.
Key factors to help prevent respiratory viruses:
- Stay up to date with immunizations
- Practice good hygiene
- Cover your mouth/nose when you cough/sneeze
- Wash your hands frequently
- Clean frequently touched surfaces Get fresh air Stay home when you are sick
- Seek healthcare when you are not feeling well and get tested.
If you have any questions regarding these changes please feel free to reach out.
Stay healthy,
Katie Schipano, RN-BSN
