Schools across Massachusetts submitted designs for the 2024 ST Math MA Banner Design Challenge. We have been told that it was a VERY tough decision choosing just one student design! However, we are excited to announce the winning design was from Sophia Greene, a 4th Grader in Ms. Frank's class! A huge thank you to Mrs. Dickson, our visual arts teacher, for taking on the challenge and providing our students with the opportunity to participate. The winning design and other submissions are on display by Thacher's main office. Congratulations to Sophia and way to go Thacher artists!
ST Math
Thacher/ELC School enthusiastically celebrated JiJi's birthday dressing like penguins and in black and white. Students were greeted upon arrival with waves and high fives by the ST Math's mascot! Mrs. Gagne's Third Grade class wrote Tootles Notes which are written notes of thanks showing gratitude and appreciation of their learning and the fun on ST Math. First Grade and other classes made headbands to honor our favorite penguin.
Happy 27th Birthday JiJi!

This Week in Music
Hello again to all of our wonderful Thacher families. Below are some updates from the music room.
This week, I am particularly reminded of our students’ steady progression throughout their time in the music program here at Thacher. Our youngest students have gotten to participate in play-based instrument exploration by using tambourines as steering wheels… we have used them to “drive” around the room, shaking as we go and hitting them to “beep” at pesky traffic jams… you know how that 95 corridor is during rush hour. Meanwhile, groups of our older students have continued honing their mallet technique by playing their xylophones and metallophones in class–I am in awe of how much progress has been made. Some students struggled to keep a steady beat at the beginning of this year and are now accompanying the class while we sing songs! Finally, our upper grades are (of course) continuing to fine tune their recorder skills. We have learned the notes B, A, G, E, and D. This wide range of pitches has allowed us to play a variety of fun tunes. If you’re looking to help your child practice, please check out this great playlist of play along songs! Each video has the notes indicated in parentheses right in the title. For example Fancy C (C) shows that only the note C is used while A Walk in the Park (GE) indicates that the notes G and E are used. All the while, all grades have been continuing to work on their vocal technique and we have used plenty of games and dances to keep the kids moving and grooving!
As always… keep on rocking and enjoy the pictures below.
Musically yours,
Mr. Chippo
