Artists of the Month
Elementary, Middle & High School Edition!

Youth Art Month
Artist of the Month is an RCS High School program that acknowledges an art student each month. The Artist of the Month is a student who comes to class each day ready to learn, participates in class, is dedicated to their projects, and has a positive attitude.
As part of Youth Art Month, each school selected students that embody the criteria above to be their Art Students of the Month for March! This week we are sharing our Elementary, Middle, and High School Students!
Huge congratulations to these students for all their hard work and dedication to their craft.
The Art Students of the Month for March are:
Pieter B. Coeymans
Gabriella Alberts is a 5th grader and loves art, especially drawing. She has been sketching flowers and animals recently including an elephant. Another activity Gabriella enjoys is softball.
For this abstract piece with circular shapes shaded in a palette of warm colors, Gabriella used colored pencils. Her influences for this creation were art lessons on Piet Mondrian and Wassily Kandinsky.
Arianna Carle is in 4th grade and likes creating many kinds of art both in school and at home. She has recently been drawing animals including turtles, ducks, and butterflies. Arianna also enjoys reading and is presently reading Besties Work It Out. This piece of artwork by Arianna is a tissue paper mosaic landscape influenced by the 19th century impressionist art movement.
Laney Therrien is a 1st grader and likes art class, especially painting. Another art activity she likes is drawing hearts for her mom. Her artwork, made with ripped construction paper and tempera paints, was influenced by the artist John James Audubon.

Logan Patry is a talented young artist who brings a great deal of flair to any project he is working on. Logan’s Jungle was inspired by the artist Henri Rousseau. Logan filled the space with many twisty tree trunks and brought this painting to life by adding snakes! “I made the snakes going down in a hole in the ground, and going up a tree. They are camouflaged so other animals can’t eat them,” says Logan. Congratulations Logan, for being one of AWB’s artists of the month! Logan Patry is in Kindergarten.
Livia Kindlon is an artist who brings enthusiasm and heart to every artwork she undertakes. Her winter birch tree scene was created using watercolor and a tape resist technique. Additionally, Livia sprinkled salt on the wet watercolor to create a speckled effect called a salt resist. After peeling off the tape, Livia rendered the birch trees using delicate shading, and tree bark details using colored pencil. Tiny snowflakes were carefully added as a finishing touch. “I have artists in my family,” says Livia. “When I was young, and my dad was sketching, I would watch him and he would teach me how to hold the pencil.” Congratulations Livia, for a well-deserved artist of the month! Livia Kindlon is in 3rd Grade.
Leah Ross is an artist who has recently discovered mask making as her medium of choice. One of the masks pictured was made during Leah’s fourth grade art class. The other mask was made at home! “My inspiration comes from YouTubers who make cool masks, so my dad bought me blank ones to paint. I splatter painted it first. I even blended blue and white paint with my fingertip on the eyeshadow area” says Leah. During class, Leah created another mask representing a wolf peeking through the bushes. She has become a master color blender as well as an amazing mask maker! Congratulations Leah, for being one of AWB’s artists of the month! Leah Ross in in 4th Grade.
Middle School
Matthew Whitten is an 8th grader who really enjoyed our Linoleum Cut/Block Printing Unit. Matt made over 20 different color versions from his carved block and he will be displaying many of them in our MS Art Show in May. Matt told me that he loves to draw dogs, especially Basset hounds which inspired him to create this print.
Olivia Datri is an 8th grader who quietly demonstrates her artistic talent at the Middle School. She loves to draw and illustrate at home and will share her creations in class. Olivia's latest creation is a realistic study of the human eye. She carefully painted and used graphite shading to capture the realism you can see in her art.
Olivia Scott is an 8th grader who loves to work with Prismacolor colored pencils. If you see her working independently on her own work, she will be using some sort of colored pencil. Olivia likes to shade, blend, and make gradations using this medium. In this art piece, Olivia created an optical illusion using spheres, movement, depth, shadow, overlapping, and pattern.
High School
Autumn Lischak is a 10th grade student currently enrolled in Studio in Art. Autumn is doing wonderful work with graphite, we are so impressed with her attention to value and her ability to shade. For her choice value drawing she chose to draw a truck, Autumn did a wonderful job rendering reflections. We are so excited that she is taking an art class this year!
Piper Weddell is a 9th grade student currently enrolled in Studio in Art and is an active member of the Art Club and Photography Club. We admire her attention to detail and the focus she shows in class. Her Music and Lyric project is a wonderful example of her ability to go above and beyond while still mastering new art material.
Kaylie Sill is a 9th grade student currently enrolled in Studio in Art. Kaylie is doing wonderful work with all the new materials she has been presented with this year. Kaylie’s Value Drawing shows skill in shading while still expressing her personality. We are looking forward to seeing what comes next for her.
Stay tuned to see how our students and staff celebrate self-expression and creativity during Youth Art Month!
