Attendance

This year, Hannum School is making a special effort to ensure that all students fully benefit from their education by attending school regularly. Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school and themselves. It's crucial for students to start building this habit so they learn right away that going to school on time, every day is important. Consistent attendance will help children to do well in high school, college, and at work.

We miss your children when they are gone and we value their contributions to our school. We recently reviewed our attendance data during our trimester 2 data review. Currently, we have 107 students (28% of our entire student body) who have missed 10 or more days of school. We would like you to help ensure that you child attends regularly and is successful in school. Please know that we are aware that there are a variety of reasons that students are absent from school from health concerns to transportation challenges. There are many people in our building prepared to help you if you or your child face challenges in getting to school regularly or on time. The data mentioned above is broken down further below. Please partner with us to help us ensure that EVERY student benefits from their education by attending school regularly.

Family Conferences

Our Family Conferences are taking place this week, Thursday, Feb. 22nd from 5:00 pm-8:00 pm and Friday, Feb. 23rd from 11:30 am-6:30 pm. We look forward to having this time to connect with our families on our students' progress. Please stop by the lost and found tables set up outside of our Multipurpose Room to look for missing items.

Fun Packs

Last call for fun packs. We will accept them through Thursday this week for those who did not turn them in by the original February 9th deadline.

Trimester 2 Continues

Our Trimester 2 Celebration is taking place on February 22, 2024. Just a reminder that the criteria set forth by our PBIS team is as follows:

• Having fewer than 5 missing assignments
• Receiving 3 or fewer behavioral referrals throughout the trimester
• Serving a suspension of any kind

Any students who are not eligible to attend will work on goal setting activities for the 3rd trimester. The dates for eligibility are from November 27, 2023 to February 22, 2024.

Smile Programs

Hannum School has partnered with Smile Programs, the mobile dentists, to offer in-school dental care.

This dental care is usually at no cost to you. All insurance is accepted including Medicaid and CHiP. For those without insurance a low cost self-pay option is available.

This in-school dental program saves you time and provides a safe and comfortable place for your child to receive gentle care from licensed local professionals. Dental care includes a complete dental exam, x-rays, cleaning , fluoride and sealants when necessary, and in some cases, restorative care such as fillings.

• They will be at Hannum School April 8, 2024.

If you are interested in using this program please fill out the application that has been sent home and return it to school by February 23, 2024. Please call the health office with any questions.

Portillo’s Eat and Earn- THIS THURSDAY!

Mark your calendars! Our next eat and earn is THIS THURSDAY, February 22nd from 4-9pm at Portillo’s located at 4020 W. 95th Street, Oak Lawn. If you are dining in the restaurant, please show the flyer when ordering. Also, please make sure your receipt reads FundRaiserIN at the bottom. If you order online, please use the code PORTILLOS26 when ordering. Be sure to grab a bite to eat before or after parent-teacher conferences.

Please share the flyer with family and friends as Hannum PTA will receive 20% of sales from the night which enables the PTA to provide free and/or discounted events for our students throughout the school year.

Fannie May Fundraiser

The Fannie May Fundraiser started last week and will run through February 29th. All order forms and payment are due no later than February 29th. This ensures we get the bulk order to Fannie May in enough time for the product to be delivered the week before Spring break.

The funds raised through our PTA fundraisers enable us to provide a wide range of enriching opportunities to the Hannum students and their families, as well as our dedicated teachers and staff. From organizing an array of free or discounted events to supplying classrooms with essential materials, supplies, and equipment, your contributions help create a vibrant and supportive learning environment where every child can thrive.

As we look ahead to upcoming PTA fundraisers and events, we invite you to join us in continuing to support our shared mission of enriching the educational journey of Hannum students. Whether it's attending a fundraiser, spreading the word, or getting involved in our PTA initiatives, every contribution makes a difference and strengthens the fabric of our school community.

Spirit Blankets and Stickers

Spirit Blankets and stickers are available and on-hand. Both make great gifts or just because items. They can be ordered online or by filling out the form and returning it to the office. Arrival

Upon their arrival, Bears should line up with their grade level peers in the locations listed below. Students will be escorted into the building by staff at 8:30 am. Students participating in the breakfast program will be permitted into the building at 8:10 am.

• KDG & 1st: Arrive and Dismissed at Door 9

• G2: Arrive & Dismissed at Door 2

• G3: Arrive Door 2 & Dismissed at Main Entrance (Door 1)

• G4 & G5 Arrive & Dismissed at Door 8

Dismissal

When school is dismissed at 3:20 pm, students are able to walk home or meet their parents/ caregivers outside of the school. Older children who walk younger siblings or neighbors should meet them in a prearranged location outside of the building and will be dismissed first in order to pick up their sibling or relative.

***This year 2nd grade students and 5th grade students end their day with Encore Classes and PE which go until 3:20.

Breakfast will be served in the main hall of our school beginning at 8:10 am. Students will enjoy their breakfast in our multipurpose room and then will go to their line to start the day.

Lunch will be ordered with your child's classroom teacher every morning. Students will be able to choose from 2 choices. Student can also bring a home lunch and only order a milk. Milk only is $0.65 and students can choose white or chocolate. You can add money to your child's meal account through Skyward. You may access the menus below.

Please see the attached map for where to drop off and where you can park if you want to get out and walk your child to their line.

Here are some reminders for helping us get kids in and out of school safely.

• Pull up as far as you can go w hen you are letting students out of the car.
• Refrain from parking across the street and having kids run across to get either to the school or back to your car.
• Be patient as kids are getting out of the car.
• Refrain from blocking the entrance and exit of the school parking lots.
• Please do not park in the driveway of St. Germaine School. (You may pull into the spots in their parking lot, but do not park in the driveway. )

Last year D123 began using the Visitor Aware program to immediately identify visitors, along with when they arrived, and where they are going

In order to ensure a smooth visit to the school, please use THIS LINK to complete the pre-registration for Visitor Aware.

Once pre-registered, you will be prompted to take a picture of yourself and answer the questions, including DL#. Once you do this they will be in the system. You will receive their QR code via text and email. This QR code is what you will use when checking into the school for a visit.
