Navigating Special Education With Princeton City Schools
New Special Education Parent Mentor
Hello! I'm Carol Korte and it has been my pleasure to begin this school year as the new District Parent Mentor for Princeton City Schools. My work is part of the Ohio Department of Education's Ohio Parent Mentor Project, an over 30-year-old program set up to support parents of children in special education.
All Ohio Parent Mentors have a child with a disability, so I have experience navigating special education in my own life. My son is on the Autism spectrum. In parenting him, I have felt the worry that something needed a closer look, waited for evaluation results, dealt with the complicated feelings after a diagnosis, searched for information, sought resources, and worked with his school team to develop and adjust his Individual Education Plan. Although parts of my journey may look different than yours, I know we share some core experiences as special education parents.
I am passionate about sharing information and resources with other parents. When parents are informed about special education, we feel confident being a big part of our children's special education teams. This leads to great conversations, working together, and to the best outcomes for our children.
We all know there are times when this path feels difficult for parents. My goal is to be helpful to your process in whatever way I am able - a listening ear, offering advice on what to do next, communicating with the school team about your concerns, sitting by you in meetings, sharing links and information on other help, and whatever your situation needs.
How can I help you?
