Community Crew News #34
April 20th, 2024
Greetings Conway Community!
The week began a reminder to us all of the importance of being prepared to take action at a moments notice. The safety of our students and staff is always a top priority. I want to thank all of our Conway staff crew for their quick action to move quickly but calmly during our dismissal into our lockdown procedures. Monday's event at the end of the day unfortunately is something that happens far too often these days. I am grateful for our Crew's quick response to a situation that was unfolding in our neighborhood at the worst possible time. I want to commend the quick communication of our staff that noticed the suspect in close proximity to the school and alerted site administration. Without hesitation, staff took action and initiated emergency procedures. All students, staff, and parents followed lockdown procedures immediately and this was exactly what needed to happen. I applaud everyones' quick response.
The following day, our classroom teachers created space to to talk about feeling and assure our students that they are safe. In fact, we do practice drills on a monthly basis. Our Crew prioritized providing care and support and reinforce safety but also applauded their amazing job staying calm and following directions.
We were grateful for Escondido Police Departments quick response. Officers were able to quickly identify and arrest the suspect.
This week officers visited our site to check our students and assure them they are safe. Officer Evans joined 5th graders in a basketball game and hung out with our 3rd and 4th graders during recess. Officer Quach, stopped by several days during dismissal to just say "hello". We appreciate our Escondido Officers that work so hard to keep our community safe.
Rotary Awards
On Wednesday, April 17th at a very special celebration was held at Bear Valley Middle School. Rotary honored two students from every school site as and Outstanding Scholar and for Service Above Self.
5th grade student, Jose Guillen Ambriz was named our Outstanding Scholar for the 2023-2024 school year due to his exemplary leadership and his embodiment of our EPIC values—Excellence, Perseverance, Integrity, and Compassion. His dedication to academic excellence is evident in his high achievements across all subjects, supported by his proactive approach to learning and his positive mindset. Are just a few of the reasons why he deserved this honor.
5th grade student, Melody CavilloMaldonado was recognized for the Service Above Self Award, for epitomizing the school’s character values of Excellence, Perseverance, Integrity, and Compassion. Her dedication shines through her active involvement in a breadth of extracurricular activities, notably her longstanding commitment to the "W.H.O. Crew," a leadership group focused on community service and donations. These are just a few reasons why she deserves this recognition.
Congratulations to both students for their remarkable work and for being the incredible humans you are.
Communication is extremely important to everyone at our EPIC school. Please make sure to scroll all the way through the weekly message. If you miss a message, you can view all communication on our website under "NEWS".
I am grateful for the opportunity to inspire students to discover their unlimited potential through Excellence, Perseverance, Integrity, and Compassion. Together we are creating an EPIC school.
We are in this together and believe, We Are Crew, not passengers.
