A Message from the Administrative Team
Greenwood Students and Families:
Recent communication regarding the water testing has generated some questions:
- When will the water be re-tested? The re-test of the areas that tested above limits is scheduled for April 16, 2024. As a reminder, the area in question was the kitchen and all faucets have been replaced.
- Are all water fountain stations safe for consumption? YES, all tested within acceptable guidelines.
The recent leak in a chilled water pipe has been resolved. There was a mis-step that occurred in the process of switching over to air-conditioning (A/C) in the building that caused the water to leak. The water that spilled was colored with green dye and NOT toxic. The move to A/C continues to progress and the damages from the spill (i.e., insulation, ceiling tile, etc.) are being corrected. We want to give compliments to our campus maintenance and custodial crews for the timely response to our chilled water leak. The response minimized the damage.
Attendance contracts for 2024-25 will be in the mail soon. Once received, each family has 10 days to return the contract with the minimum payment noted on the contract. Please be diligent in this process as we have many interested families wanting their child to attend Greenwood.
The 7th grade class finally got to experience their Jefferson City field trip on Thursday this week! After missing out on this annual 4th grade event due to COVID, the group had a great time yesterday touring the Capitol, the Governor’s Mansion, and the Missouri Supreme Court. A big thank you to Mr. Loren Broaddus and the GPA for their help sponsoring this field trip!
Students and staff enjoyed the solar eclipse this week and we want to give a big shoutout to Ms. Gilmore for organizing and taking students to Popular Bluff to enjoy a once in a lifetime experience of totality. Thank you to Mr. Anderson and Mr. Madsen for going, too, we appreciate our staff members that give the effort to provide such impactful opportunities.
We want to congratulate Ally Johnson for setting the school record in the 300 hurdles, congratulations, Ally!
Have a great weekend!
Ron & Jeni

3 Senior Spring College Decision Handouts
College decisions bring a mix of emotions. Some students get into their dream schools while others may not get any acceptances at all. These handouts may help you through the next steps:
Below are two great links that contain a current list of many scholarships with approaching deadlines. The first is for current seniors; the second is for current juniors:
You will find a list below with other local and area scholarship opportunities. Pay attention to each application deadline:
1. COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF THE OZARKS (Various Scholarships) – CFO’s scholarship season is open, as of Jan 1! The application deadline is now Sunday, April 14. Seniors should use their personal email to set up an account. CFO has moved to a Universal Application process allowing students to apply for all CFO scholarships for which they qualify through one comprehensive application.
Students will create an account and answer several eligibility questions in the UA. Based on their answers, they will receive a confirmation page which will list the scholarship opportunities that they were found eligible to be considered for. Some scholarship opportunities will require answers to supplemental questions.
Specific criteria information can be found on the “Scholarship Criteria Preview” page on CFO’s website: https://www.cfozarks.org/resources/scholarship-criteria. See step by step instructions on the following pdf: “How to Apply for Scholarships” How to Apply for Scholarships.pdf NOTE: Due to the unprecedented and unfortunate series of challenges with the FAFSA this year, the Community Foundation of the Ozarks has removed the FAFSA-SAI number requirement from its scholarship applications for this year. Students will no longer need to include that information in their applications.
2. Soroptimist Lollar Scholarship – The Soroptimist International of Springfield offers a scholarship of $1500 to a deserving, qualifying senior planning to attend college or vocational school in the fall of 2024. Applicants must demonstrate financial need. See Mrs. Ewing if interested in applying.
Applications must be postmarked before April 28.
Greenwood Students Travel to Poplar Bluff to Watch Solar Eclipse
Due to the generosity of Greenwood Parent Association (GPA), forty Greenwood High School science students, plus teachers, traveled to Poplar Bluff, MO on Monday, April 8, 2024, to experience the total solar eclipse. The cosmos aligned to produce a once in a lifetime show!
First, the moon was at perigee (closest in orbit to Earth), second , the sun was at highest activity in its 11-year cycle, and third, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, and Mars were on display. Combined, this meant four minutes and eight seconds of totality, and visibility of solar flares and prominences.
Thank you, GPA and Administration, for this unique and amazing opportunity!
