Standard Response Protocol
Concrete School District Safety
Law Enforcement on Campus: 02/28/2024
Suspicious Report
Dear Concrete Families:
We are informing you that Concrete High School and Concrete Elementary entered into a temporary SECURE status this afternoon.
At approximately 2:20pm this afternoon, we put our schools on a SECURE status. Law enforcement had received a tip that there may have been a weapon on the high school campus. The buildings were locked and a student was questioned. No weapon was found and there was never any threat to students or staff. Students were safe during the entirety of this incident.
As a reminder, SECURE means that students will maintain normal activity inside the school buildings. The exterior doors are locked with no entry/exit allowed. Schools operate as usual with exception of recesses being held indoors. The Concrete School District is fully committed to the safety of our students. The district has protocols in place for such emergency situations that provide a coordinated and common-sense approach to working through emergencies that we may encounter. Staff members across the district are familiar with these procedures.
In addition, students and staff regularly participate in emergency preparedness drills which provide all participants with an understanding of responses to various crisis situations. We regard our students’ safety as our top priority.
Respectfully,
Kristen Fairbank, Interim Concrete High School Principal
School Safety Is Our Highest Priority
Standard Response Protocol (SRP)
Dear Parents/Guardians:
In our continued effort to maintain safety in our schools, we are sharing the terms the district uses during emergency situations. The Concrete School District uses the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) which is a national system of common vocabulary that is used in emergency events.
Our children are the most valuable treasure in our community. We regard their safety as our top priority. Safety depends on our ability and commitment to emergency preparedness. In addition to the lessons and discussions, the school district will also conduct drills periodically throughout the year. These drills are as follows:
EVACUATE Drills: We practice the evacuation of the schools in an orderly fashion with staff collaborating to ensure student accountability. An EVACUATION would be required in the event of a fire or following an earthquake.
SECURE Drills: All students will come inside of the school buildings. Students will maintain normal activity inside and the exterior doors are locked with no entry/exit allowed. Recesses would be held inside the buildings. An example of the need for a SECURE is in the event of an animal outside the building such as a bear, elk, or a cougar.
HOLD Drills: Students will maintain normal activity inside their classrooms but hallways will be closed to students. A HOLD may occur if there is a medical emergency and the hallways need to be clear for medical personnel to gain quick access to the sick or injured individual. This is also to ensure the privacy of the individual requiring the specialized attention.
LOCKDOWN Drills: Students will be taught or will review Locks, Lights, Out Of Sight. Students will be taught that staff will lock doors, turn off lights, and everyone will hide out of sight. A LOCKDOWN would occur if there was a dangerous situation within the building.
SHELTER IN PLACE Drills: Students will be taught to shelter during a hazardous situation. One likely example of the need to SHELTER is in the event of an earthquake. In the event of an earthquake, students will be instructed to drop, cover, and hold. This means students will drop to the floor, cover their heads, and hold on to the desk or furniture they seek shelter under.
The Concrete School District is fully committed to the safety of our students. If you would like more information, please feel free to call 360-853-4008 or email our Safety Coordinator at kfairbank@concrete.k12.wa.us. Thank you for your support of our safety initiatives.
