Principal's Message
Dear Eccles Families and Caregivers,
Congratulations and welcome back to our 6th Graders! They returned from Outdoor School at Camp Gray on the Oregon Coast on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 pm. It was great to see their smiling faces. There was evidence of sunny hikes on the beach and sleeping in cabins with several classmates. :)
A big thank you to our 6th grade team: Mr. Carrico, Mr. Fronius, and Mr. Tompkins for taking our students on this three day experience. And a big thank you to our high school counselors who helped support and supervise students during Outdoor School. We could not have done it without you!
Next week we will hold the Kindergarten Kickoff for the 2024-25 school year. We want to see all of you who will have kindergarteners next year! If you haven’t already, please register your student for kindergarten, but you can join us even if you haven’t registered yet. In fact, that is a great time to get information about the registration process and to begin getting excited about this big first step. We hope to see you there!
Sincerely,
Kelly

Student SEED Survey
Canby School District will offer Oregon’s Student Educational Equity Development (SEED) Survey to students in grades 3-11, as required by Oregon law, during state testing this spring. The SEED Survey gives students the opportunity to voice their experiences in Oregon’s education system and is designed to capture their sense of belonging and experiences at school.
What is the SEED Survey?
It asks students about access to learning resources, learning opportunities, self-efficacy beliefs, and sense of belonging
Grades 6-11 includes questions about career-technical education and extracurricular activities
Grades 9-11 includes questions about post-graduation planning
Multiple choice, with additional open-ended questions for grades 6-11
Takes about 10-20 minutes to complete
Students may decline to answer individual questions
Oregon law (HB 2656) permits parents or guardians to decline to have their student participate in the SEED Survey. Any student who is excused from participating will have supervised study time or another learning activity while other students are completing the survey.
If you would like your student to participate in the SEED Survey, no further action is required.
If you do not want your student to participate in the SEED Survey, please click here to opt out. For Eccles Elementary, please respond by Friday, April 19.
CARE Award Nominations
Each month, Canby School District and the Canby Kiwanis Club will highlight a different school in our district and will recognize a staff member from that school with the CARE Award. Eccles will be highlighted during the month of May. So, if you know of an Eccles staff member who has made a difference in your life, the life of a child you know, or in the community, please consider nominating them for the CARE Award.
Library Texts
Canby School District libraries use CSD guidelines for selecting new texts. This school year, new titles for circulation will be posted quarterly on the CSD Library Curation web page to provide our community with this information. Please click here to learn more.

What's Cooking?
At school, there’s always a meal ready to be served!
Some mornings, it’s tough to find the time to make sure your kids are eating a nutritious breakfast. On those days, why not send them to the School Breakfast Program? Each meal meets government nutritional guidelines and standards. Schools are required to provide a breakfast meal that includes fruit, whole-grain rich items, and low fat or fat free milk. Check your child’s menu to see the variety of nutritious choices available at School Breakfast, or stop by to sample the food yourself!
Reading Mentors: Become a Volunteer Today!
Reading Mentors inspires a love of reading by providing students with their own library of books and consistent, one-on-one reading with a caring adult. Kids who read for fun, read to learn!
The Canby Center is looking for volunteers who love to read and have a heart for students. If you can meet consistently to enjoy reading with a student at Eccles Elementary or another elementary school in Canby, or fill in as a substitute occasionally, contact:

Health Room Updates
LOST & FOUND
Our clothes rack is filling up. Please stop by and check the rack for any of your child's missing stuff (clothes, hats, water bottles, etc).
CLOTHES FOR KIDS
Accidents and injuries happen, and our health room utilizes donated clothes to help our students in need. If you have extra items that your child has outgrown, they're in good condition, and you'd like to pass it on to the school, we would be so grateful. Here are the items we have an increased need for right now:
- Boys sweats & pants (sizes 6-12)
- Girls leggings (sizes 6-12)
- Boys underwear (sizes 6/XS & 7-8/S-M)
- Girls underwear (sizes 4-8)
- Shoes (any clothes-toed, tennis shoes or sneakers, boys & girls)
