Dear parents and carers.
We have had a fantastic end to a busy half term with our science week. Each class spent the week investigating an inspirational scientist, and we met as a school yesterday to share how each scientist has changed the world. Each class then voted for the scientist who they felt had made the biggest difference to our lives, with the result being announced when we return. It was lovely to see so much great science happening in classrooms, particularly the many opportunities to conduct investigations and experiments. There are definitely some budding scientists amongst our children!
To launch our science week, we had a visit on Monday from Dr Frank Soboczenski, a computer scientist from King’s College London & a STEM scientist for NASA. He talked about the work he is doing on Artificial Intelligence with NASA, and about some of the other exciting projects he has been involved in.
On Wednesday, we were lucky enough to have two engineers, who are currently working on the Transpennine Route Upgrade, come into school to run STEM workshops with the children in KS2. Year 3 and 4 spent the afternoon creating stable towers with different materials, whilst year 5 and 6 created giant tetrahedrons in the hall. In order to be successful, the children showed great teamwork and communication skills. We were very impressed with them!
Another highlight of the week was the fantastic picnic Thunberg put on for their family members. They have spent weeks writing invites, creating a menu and making the food to share, and it was so lovely to see how proud they were of what they had made.
We finished the week with open classrooms, which is always a lovely end to a term. It is always great to be able to welcome parents and carers in so that children have the chance to share their learning.
We have been busy in school today, planning for the summer term, which looks set to be a busy one with camp-outs, school trips, sports day and lots of Y6 leavers' events. Hopefully we will return to sunny days and a little less rain!
Thank you for your support this term. It has been an absolute pleasure leading the school for the last few months; it is a fantastic community to be a part of!
Have a lovely Easter.

What a fantastic end to the term we have had with a hugely successful Curry & Quiz Night and Lions Egg Donation. Congratulations to Maisie A (Y1 Rashford) who won the egg!
We raised over £500 between the two events, which will go towards upgrading some of the outdoor equipment in the school.
We'll update early next month on planned activities for the upcoming term.
