Course Registration 2024-25
In March students begin the registration process of selecting course requests for the next school year. Course registration forms will be given to students in grades 9-11 on March 4th during FLEX.
The registration process is extremely important, so students should choose wisely to ensure they will be appropriately challenged academically and prepared for their post high school plans.
Students are reminded to make sure to return their completed registration forms to their flex teachers with parent/guardian signatures and teacher initials no later than Flex March 8th. Students will enter their course requests in Powerschool beginning March 11th using their paper registration form.
We encourage families to be highly involved with their student’s registration. If you or your student has any questions during the registration process (i.e. curriculum, course offerings, graduation requirements, etc.) do not hesitate to contact your student’s counselor, case manager, classroom teacher or FLEX teacher.

Online course selection through PowerSchool will occur later in March (more information to follow).

Seal of Biliteracy
Do you speak more than one language?
Are you currently in or have you completed an AP world language class?
Then you may be eligible for the Seal of Biliteracy!
It’s an award that recognizes graduating students for having a high degree of skill in English and one or more additional languages. Nearly all states in the United States now offer this award, celebrating multilingualism and giving students an edge for their post-secondary studies and/or future careers. Some universities offer credit or other advantages to students who have earned the Seal.
You’re considered proficient in English if you’ll have completed our school’s English requirement for graduation by June, 2024. There are a number of ways to demonstrate literacy or proficiency in another language, including certain standardized test scores oral proficiency interviews and other pathways.
For more information see;
https://www.maine.gov/doe/learning/content/world-language/biliteracy
scroll down the page for info on eligibility.
If you think that you may be interested and eligible, please contact Mrs. Duncan lduncan@brunswicksd.org.

Thrift Shop Field Trip
The Thrift Club went on a field trip to Goodwill and Estillo to learn about best ways to organize and present donated clothes. Thank you to both companies for their time and knowledge shared with us. One fun new fact we learned was Goodwill sells their expensive donated items on EBay.
The Thrift is currently accepting lightly used sneakers, sweat pants, new socks, and always personal hygiene products. The Thrift is a free clothing boutique at the end of the nurse’s hall where you can take and or donate. If you don’t see what you may need please email mkunhardt@brunswicksd.org.
We are open Tuesday Flex and by appointment with any staff person.
SafeBAE Flex Activity
On Wednesday 2/28, the BHS chapter of SafeBAE planned an activity for their peers about recognizing healthy (Green Flags) and unhealthy dynamics (Red Flags) in relationships for Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. SafeBAE is a student lead organization that focuses on ending sexual violence among youth. If you are interested in joining or learning more about SafeBAE, you can reach out to club leader Britney Cunningham or stop by room 207 on Black Tuesday Flex!

Chain of Thankfulness
Around Thanksgiving, we had students and staff write down what they are thankful for and we strung it around the first floor lobby. We had enough from the whole school that it went all the way around the lobby. We had it up until just recently! It was nice to be reminded of how much we all have to be thankful for.
A big thank you to Ms. Vogel for orchestrating that activity.
Elliot Nagler, BHS Alumni, did an educational event for our Students
We were honored to have an alumni, Elliot Nagler, join us for this event. Elliot has traversed the path of acting school and brought back with them a wealth of knowledge and experience that truly enriched our time together . It is experiences like these that remind us of the power of connection and the importance of continuously seeking out opportunities for growth and enrichment. Thank you to everyone who participated in this memorable event, and a special thank you to Elliot for their generosity in sharing their expertise with us. Wishing you all continued success and fulfillment in your artistic endeavors.

Naviance How To
All students have access to this resource that BHS uses for a variety of purposes in the process of investigating career paths and post secondary education options. If students have not yet accessed their Naviance account, they should be doing this in Flex (juniors will be getting passwords next week, in the event your student hasn’t logged in yet).
All students can take a variety of surveys to investigate areas of interest and career pathways and eventually start their list of potential colleges to apply to as seniors.
How to access Naviance:
Naviance can be used to help explore careers and college options/searches. In grade 12 Naviance is used (as a data management tool) to send out all materials from BHS for college applications - including transcripts and letters of recommendation.
1. Go to the BHS Website
2. Select Explore on the top right of the page.
3. Under the Student Column, there is Naviance listed.
4. Type in 04011 for the zip code and select Brunswick High School
5. Usernames are the prefix of emails for BHS (do not include the @portion)
6. Passwords should have been set in Flex or when meeting with school counselors for grades 9 and 10, grade 11 students may have them now or will get them next week.
Where to start?--- Go to Self- Discovery (at top) Complete the surveys!
Reminder - Seniors
Seniors-- you should be indicating in Naviance the responses you are receiving from colleges (acceptances) along with the school you plan on attending (once you know). Check with your counselor if you aren’t sure how to do this.
