St Joseph's Catholic Primary School
Newsletter 8.3.24
This week...
I feel like I say this every week, but we have had another very busy and exciting week across our school and nursery! Celebrating World Book Day in our pyjamas, with a 'bedtime story' theme, was a wonderful experience, and the children's love of reading really shone through.
A group of Year 5/6 children represented our school in the Selby small schools football tournament; St Therese enjoyed a Victorian learning expedition around Tadcaster; we were thrilled about the amount of children entered into our new reading raffle; and we are hearing from families that our healthy-eating campaign has been having a fantastic impact at home!
Today, we are launching a Times Table Rockstars Class Battle (you should have received a separate letter about this) and next week we are delighted to be holding a Positive Psychology Week!
We look forward to telling you all about it in next week's newsletter.
Have a lovely weekend.
Thank you, as always, for supporting us to
Live, love and learn with the Lord.
Mrs Ronicle
Virtue of Charity
During the time of Lent, we focus on how we give to others; part of this can be through charity. Each class has a charity they raise money for throughout the year.
During Lent, our Mini Vinnies are organising ways to raise money for the Good Shepherd Appeal.
Next Thursday morning, they are selling cookies for 10p a biscuit. We won't have change so please bring the right amount if at all possible!
Think about ways you can encourage your children to give to charity at home too. This doesn't need to be money - we can donate old clothes or toys, or simply give our time.
Times Table Rockstars!
Exciting news - we are relaunching TT Rockstars from Year 1 -6, in the form of a Class Battle based on time played so all classes have a chance to win!
The Class Battle will begin after school today until next Friday, 15th March.
The winning class will be announced in assembly and they will receive an EXTRA BREAKTIME!
All children have been given a login and these will have been sent home, or stuck in the back of children's planners, this week.
Reading Raffle!
This week, we held our first Reading Raffle!
Well done to our first winners, who were announced in Celebration Assembly. Their names are also featured in our winners section below!
If a child has read at least 3 times per week (and has this recorded in their reading record/ planner), they will be entered into our weekly Reading Raffle!
Positive Psychology Week
Next week will be our Positive Psychology Week across our school and nursery.
Each class will dedicate at least a session per day to support our children in their understanding of their mental health. We will be exploring the following areas throughout the week:
· personal reflection and mindfulness;
· strategies to improve mental health;
· tips and advice about where to seek help when needed;
· team-building activities;
· understanding some of the research around neuroscience and how this impacts our feelings;
· creating a ‘Zones or Regulation’ resource to use at home
Families Survey Results
The overwhelming headline for us was the 93% of families who would recommend our school!
Thank you - this means a lot to us!
We have taken your feedback on board. We had a few comments from families who felt they would like more information about what the children are learning. We do have long-term plans on our website (please use the link below to access these for each class). We are also ensuring you are kept up to date with our open classrooms and learning reviews (our next date is Wed 10th April).
In addition to these things though, we will devise curriculum newsletters that will be sent to families each term. We hope this will help to keep you will more informed!
Tadcaster Litter Pick
Please join us to help keep our community tidy!

Football team
Well done to the Year 5/6 children who represented our school in a local football tournament this week!
PSHCE - Healthy Eating!
Last week, we launched the Eat Them to Defeat Them, healthy eating campaign! Thank you for continuing to support with this at home - we have enjoyed hearing about all the new fruits and vegetables our children are tasting at home!
Open Classrooms and Learning Reviews - Save the Date!
On Wednesday 10th April, from 2:30-3:30pm, we are hosting open classrooms, where children invite their families into school to share their wonderful learning.
After this, from 3:40pm-7:00pm, teachers will be holding learning reviews with parents/carers. Information on how to book a slot will be released nearer the date.
Bernard Walford
Bernard was a grandparent of some of our former pupils. He often listened to students read and was a real supporter of St Joseph's, having been involved in education throughout his life, both in this country and abroad. He was also an active member of St Joseph's Church. We are grateful for his contributions to our school community. He will be sadly missed.
Easter Showcase
Our Mini Vinnies have asked if they can host an Easter Showcase, with dance, drama and song, to retell the story of Easter!
Details are still being finalised but save the date:
Friday 22nd March, straight after Celebration Assembly!
