2024 Adidas Indoor Track National Championship
Evie Mathis, Sophomore at Wayland Union High School, competed in Pole Vault at the 2024 Adidas Indoor Track National Championships in Virginia Beach, VA on March 15th! Evie earned Third Place amongst over 60 high school athletes from across the country. Evie was the youngest athlete to place in the Top Ten and ended the day amongst the top 4 finishers, all jumping 3.65M at this national meet. Congratulations, Evie!
State Solo and Ensemble
Four students from the HS band and orchestra participated in State Solo and Ensemble on Saturday, March 16th. Our members came home with three division 1 ratings and a division 2 rating. We are so proud of these incredible musicians, and all the extra hours they spent planning and practicing for this event. They made our Wildcat family proud!

FAFSA Madness
Week three's FAFSA Madness winner was Makenzie Brown! Makenzie won a pair of Beats headphones. This coming week is the last week for seniors to try their hand at winning a FAFSA prize.
Author Visit
On Monday, author/illustrator Aaron Zenz visited Dorr Elementary. He talked about the writing process and how a book is made. Students LOVED it! Aaron also showed students how to draw one of his characters, the Hiccupotamus.
Blue Origin’s Club for the Future Program
In collaboration with Blue Origin’s Club for the Future Program, Second grade students at Dorr wrote postcards reflecting their thoughts on the topic: What will the future look like? These postcards will be transported into space by Blue Origin, postmarked, and returned to students within the next year. Will this inspire a Dorr student to be an astronaut when they grow up? Time will tell!
Green Day
For the month of March, Pine Street Elementary has been hosting periodic spirit days and Wednesday, March 20th was Green Day. Jackson definitely took it to the next level!
Smoothie Bike
Dorr Elementary was visited by the Chartwell Smoothie Bike on Thursday, March 21st. Students were able to ride a bike to blend a smoothie and then taste it. Even our Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations, Leslie Wagner, had to join in on the fun!
MSVMA Festival
The Wayland Middle School 7th and 8th Grade Choirs sang at MSVMA Festival at Hastings Performing Arts Center on March 21, and received at top score of 1 for their performance, as well as a perfect score in sight singing. They will advance to State Festival on May 3rd.
Guest Readers
Mrs. Shafer's class at Steeby Elementary has had 16 guest readers so far for the month of March, including SRO Officer Schaefer, Title 1 Teacher Jill Terrell, and NHS students. Isn't reading awesome?!
World Down Syndrome Day
Staff and students at Pine Street recognized World Down Syndrome Day on March 21st. Down Syndrome is recognized on this day yearly by wearing mismatched crazy socks. 3/21 is the special date because it represents the triplication of the 21st chromosome which is the cause of Down syndrome.
