Up, Up, and Away! Fifth Grade Takes Flight, Thanks to SEF
The fifth graders finalized their annual hot air balloon engaged learning unit this week with a tethered ride into the air! They also created and launched their own mini-hot air balloons. Fifth graders make so many connections during this cross-curricular learning unit - it's not all just math and science!
This is a long-time tradition for Sunnyvale fifth graders and we are grateful for the support of the Sunnyvale Education Foundation for stewarding the grant that supports this fabulous project! Special thanks to Dr. Stovall and the fifth grade team and Mrs. Staley and Mrs. Barnes, as well!
Read Across America Week Means Making Literacy Fun at SES
Read Across America is an annual nationwide celebration of reading that takes place on or near the birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel... better known at Dr. Seuss!
In true SES fashion, library teacher Kelly Dodson lead the campus in fun activities that encouraged reading in fun ways! From inviting Mystery Readers to school to providing students with a book from the SEF-funded Book Vending Machine, to allowing students to have D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read) Time to encouraging students to bring a book from home - Mrs. Dodson made the week extremely special for all students.
Literacy Night also took place this week, bringing families together to enjoy learning together!
Thank you, Mrs. Dodson and SES team for making reading so fun!

McDill Honored With National Award
Coach Jill McDill was honored tonight at halftime of the 6A girls’ state basketball game in San Antonio with the prestigious John R. Wooden Legacy Award. This is a national award for one girls coach and one boys coach in each state. The award recognizes the pillars of: education, longevity, character, service and excellence - all qualities Coach McDill models for her team and students daily.
Coach McDill has lead six teams from three schools to the state championship - winning twice. One of those legendary wins was the 2015 Lady Raider state championship.
This season, she claimed her 700th win. We are so proud that Coach McDill is a Raider!
