BASHAW SCHOOL UPDATE
March 4
NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPALS
It has been a busy and productive start to semester two at Bashaw School. Semester Two courses are underway and we are enjoying seeing the students enjoy new complementary and options courses such as Film Studies and Art at the Junior High level. Outdoor Education students are planning a spring camping trip, with the option for other ‘guest’ students to join and learn from the Outdoor Education students.
We have had two successful ski trips so far this month: one for Elementary and one for Junior High. There is an overnight ski trip for Senior High students scheduled for March, in partnership with Hay Lakes and New Norway school.
Basketball season is almost finished. The Junior High Girls have had a GREAT season and finished in 4th after hosting Regionals this past weekend. The Junior Girls Developmental team, Junior Boys and Senior Boys exhibited a lot of growth and showed some amazing sportsmanship through the Basketball season.
Mental Health Capacity Building programming resumes for another 4 week block this spring. Our focus on Mental Health included school-wide activities for Pink Shirt Day and a writing contest on the theme of kindness and caring. We look forward to collaborating with Alix MAC school for a Wellness Day for Junior High students in May.
A huge thank you for all the support of our community. We have such a great community and we couldn’t do all the things that we do without your support. From volunteers in our breakfast program to supports for our athletics, our community really does add to our overall school. One body that truly does enhance the lives of all of our students is that of BESTA. They have supported our athletic field trips as well as field trips for elementary students. BESTA has provided us with funds to purchase supplementary resources such as RAZ Kids and Mathletics in order to enhance our numeracy and literacy programming. Our active Parent Advisory Group and BESTA work in partnership with the school to improve students’ experience through their support of school-based and extracurricular activities. Please consider attending our monthly School Council meetings (now called Parent Advisory Group meetings) to experience this dynamic group in action!
Thank you for your patience as we navigate through our new online permission form process. Battle River School Division has moved to this format to alleviate many of the pressures that happen with paper forms and their return. We are hoping that this process will save time for parents and not be too cumbersome. If you are having any difficulties in accessing these in your parent portal, please contact our office for support.
SR BOYS FINAL LEAGUE GAME - TONIGHT at 6:00
ALL PERMISSION FORMS WILL REQUIRE ONLINE SIGNATURES
BRSD has made a BIG change to how permission forms are completed.
From now on all permission forms for any events off campus must be filled in online, through Rycor Online Payments. This will include all field trips, sports league games and tournaments, and off campus activities, such as walking to the nature trail, etc. In the past you have been given a paper copy to sign. But as of February 1, BRSD has moved to an online process.
What does this mean for you?
- You will be spared trying to find forms in your children's backpacks, under their laundry, stuck behind the fridge, etc.☺️
- You will be required to have an active account for Online Payments. You can create one here:
- Payments for events will be required prior to the event. You will be able to make payments and sign forms at the same time.
If you need any help setting up your account, please contact the office. We will be happy to help!
