Dear Parents / Carers,
We have had a fantastic week in school. The highlight was definitely our day celebrating reading on Work Book Day. We all thoroughly enjoyed sharing stories and talking about our favourite books, and it was lovely to see so many fabulous and creative costumes. The amazing pegs that were sent in are being displayed in the hall, so you will be able to see them at the upcoming parents' evenings.
It was great to start our Forest School sessions for this term today, with year 4 spending a fantastic day outside building fires, making bread, creating conker runs and much more. It is always so lovely to see the children thriving in this environment, as they build their confidence and resilience. We are looking forward to seeing the rest of the school out there next week.
Today, the FA hosted a nationwide football workshop for girls. The aim was to encourage more girls to play football and give them greater confidence to join in with football at playtimes and lunchtimes. We were lucky enough to have Mrs Comrie, a girl's football coach, come in for the day to run a session for the girls in each class. The enthusiasm and enjoyment from every class was a joy to see.
On Wednesday, some children from year 1 and year 5 took part in a dodgeball tournament with our Trust primary schools. The staff who took them were so impressed with their behaviour, and they showed great teamwork and respect.
Finally, we were lucky enough to have delivered a new trolley of thirty Chromebooks to use in classes. This purchase was only possible as a result of the fundraising done by the Friends of Kirk Fenton, whose donation of £7000 paid for the devices. We are hugely grateful for the work they put into raising valuable funds for the school, and to you all for your generous support at their events.
Have a lovely weekend in the spring sunshine.

Message from Head Pupils
This week has been quite an eventful one. Yesterday we celebrated World Book Day. There were lots of amazing costumes; lots of effort had been put into them. Year 4 have their forest school day today, they appeared to be having a lovely time, getting very muddy in the process! Finally, today girls from across the school have participated in the FAs Girls Football Day with Mr Priory and Mrs Comrie. Next week all the other classes will have their forest school day. Have a nice weekend!

Start with Art - Science Competition
Explorify, who are an excellent science resource we use at school, are holding a science competition for Science week. The competition is to coincide with the release of a new resource on their website called 'Start with Art'. This activity gives the children a piece of artwork which aims to spark discussion about the science behind the artwork.
To enter this competition, they must create a piece of art which they feel would spark discussion about science. They can use any medium to create this (painting, drawing, models, photograph, computer generated etc). Competition entries must be accompanied by a short paragraph (up to 150 words) that explains the science behind the artwork.
The children need to give their artwork and the short paragraph to school by the 21st of March 2024.
Three children 7 years and under will be picked and three children 8 and over will be picked and entered into the competition. If they are successful, they will receive a £50 book token and their artwork will become an Start with Art activity on the Explorify website.
Any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. Good luck!

The Curry & Quiz Night date has been pushed back one week to Friday 15th March, so there is still time to round up a team and buy tickets before next Tuesday if you want to join us: https://friends-of-kirk-fenton.sumupstore.com/
Without your support, participation and donations for the fundraising we organise we wouldn’t be able to help the school with massive enhancements for the children - like the new Chromebooks and charging trolley that cost in excess of £7,000.
Before Easter we will also have the following fund raising activities......
If you’d like a chance of winning a GIANT Easter egg, kindly donated by Sherburn Lions - then keep a look out, as we'll be selling tickets soon!
In conjunction with World Book Day, the Readathon is a returning for a third year, after great success in recent years. We'll be sending sponsorship forms home with children before the Easter holidays.
