Principal Corner
Dear Canaan Middle School Community,
We hope this newsletter finds you well! Over the past couple of weeks, our students have been hard at work completing the ELA and 5th grade Science Ohio State Tests. We commend them for their dedication and effort during this time. Next week, we will be wrapping up state testing with the 5th and 6th grade Math State assessments.
As we head into the final stretch of the school year, we have more exciting events lined up for our students. Looking ahead, May brings a flurry of activities and events for our students to enjoy. Here's a glimpse of what's coming up:
6th Grade Camp: An opportunity for our 6th graders to bond, explore, and create lasting memories at Camp Oty'Okwa from May 8-10th.
4th Grade Tour: Our 5th graders will play the role of mentors as they guide our incoming 5th graders through Canaan Middle School. It's a chance for them to showcase the spirit and culture of CMS.
Field Day: A day filled with fun, laughter, and friendly competition as students engage in various outdoor activities and games. We have some special activities planned this year thanks to our amazing CMS PTO.
Band Concert: Get ready to be amazed by the talent of our student musicians as they showcase their hard work and dedication in our upcoming band concert on May 14th.
As we reflect on the school year so far, we are filled with pride and gratitude for our students, staff, and families. It has truly been a remarkable journey, and we look forward to finishing the year on a high note!
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community.
Warm regards,
Mr. Walter, Principal
Canaan Middle School
5th Grade Update
Students completed their first state test for science! Science is tested by the state beginning at the fifth-grade level. For the remainder of the school year, we will design and complete projects to demonstrate many of the concepts we have learned throughout the year. Next week, students will enjoy creating balloon cars that will race in the Canaan 500! Students will determine the winners of the races by computing the distance, time and speed of their vehicles.
6th Grade Update
Students flew drones in Science class.
This was a collaboration between 6th grade science and the Think Big Space.
Camp Update
This week students received a detailed camp packing list. Please be sure to ask for this if you haven't seen it already.
