From the Principal...
March is officially behind us and although it feels like we've rewound back to January, we're pushing forward! April and May are always very busy with activities at Lakeview. It's also a busy time as we enter into our final quarter of the year and are learning the final skills needed to be prepared for the next grade. And for our 5th graders, it marks the final 9 weeks of their time at Lakeview!
Spring Carnival was a huge hit! Once again, our PTA and volunteers created an amazing experience for our students and families and were able to exceed their goal of raising $10,000. WOW! The LV PTA continues to be a wonderful support of our students and every year covers the costs for field trips and off campus activities for students!
April is the month of Forward testing, which is the state standardized assessment given to all elementary students in grades 3,4, and 5. (You may remember it was formerly called the WKCE testing.) It assesses students in the areas of English/Language Arts and Math, as well as Science and Social Studies in 4th grade. We've split the assessments up over a week and a half, having students take one assessment per day. Our goal is to keep the assessment as least intrusive to our typical school day as possible and to eliminate test fatigue. Unfortunately, the assessment results aren't shared with schools until the summer months, so information about your child's performance will be shared with families the following school year.
Registration for next school year is opening for 4k and Kindergarten on April 17. Only students "new" to kindergarten, who have not attended 4k should register. Registration is at the HS library from 9-1 and 3-6pm. Registration for all returning students, which is online (Annual Update), will begin May 2.
