Get the Lead Out of School Drinking Water Act
In 2022, Missouri Legislation took a step forward to reduce lead exposure in Missouri children by passing the Get the Lead out of School Drinking Water Act (Section 160.077, RSMo). This Act sets a new standard in Missouri for lead concentrations in school drinking water which is lower than the lead action level set nationally by the Environmental Protection Agency for public water systems. The Act requires schools to conduct inventory, sampling, remediation, and monitoring at all potable drinking water outlets used or potentially be used for drinking, food preparation, and cooking or cleaning utensils in a school building. The Act requires all results to be shared with parents and staff.
The district is working with a professional consulting firm to initiate and complete testing of our water, beginning in December 2023.
The first round of testing results are posted online on our website, and further updates will be posted online and communicated in accordance with state law.
TOMORROW: PARENT/Community FORUM: STOP TRAFFICKING PROJECT WITH RUSS TUTTLE
Parents are invited to a Parent Education Night with The Stop Trafficking Project that will be hosted at the Hannibal High School Auditorium on February 28, 2024 at 6:00pm.
Hannibal School District parents/guardians (ages 18+) and community members are invited and encouraged to learn how to help identify, prevent and respond to human trafficking during a community forum from 6p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28 at Hannibal High School auditorium. *Students in grades 6-12 will also be given the opportunity to participate in age-appropriate training*
This community forum will be led by Russ Tuttle, President and Founder of the Stop Trafficking Project (https://thestoptraffickingproject.com/). His organization uses communication, leadership, team development and compassion to combat domestic minor sex trafficking.
HPS’s highest priority is to help ensure the safety, security and well-being of our students. To that end, HPS has partnered with Hannibal Alliance for Youth Success (HAYS) to bring the BeAlert training to Hannibal.
The Stop Trafficking Project has used the BeAlert Strategy with more than 100,000 students in Missouri and Kansas via school assemblies designed to educate and empower students to be safer when online. The Stop Trafficking Project exists to end domestic minor sex trafficking before it starts by disrupting the exploitation of vulnerability.
The BeAlert presentation is powerful, practical information, is designed for immediate impact, and has proven long-term influence in communities that engage with The Stop Trafficking Project.
Students in grades 6-12 will participate in fun and age-appropriate training sessions with Tuttle on Feb. 29th to learn how they can help protect themselves from the dangers of human trafficking.
