LISD Expect Excellence Newsletter
February 26th, 2024
Hello Levelland Lobos.
Congratulations to our DI teams and coaches on an amazing competition. Levelland ISD was very well represented on Saturday.
The school year moves quickly at this time of the year and it makes me think of the words of Jon Gordon. He emphasizes the importance of communication and during this busy time, we can never communicate enough.
"Communicate. Communicate. Communicate. - Where there is a void in communication, negativity will fill it. This is true in almost every area of our lives from our relationships at home, at work and at play. If you always fill the void with communication then negativity and fear can't breed and grow. Great communication helps build trust. Trust generates commitment. Commitment fosters teamwork and loyalty. Teamwork and loyalty create great results. It all starts with communication. Communicate, fill the void and you'll prevent negativity from filling it." Jon Gordon.
Don't let negativity fill the void.
Have a great week!
Levelland ISD Expect Excellence.
Best Regards,
Becky McCutchen

LISD Leadership.........
Levelland ISD has the best leaders and we are proud to announce that Mr. Rodney Caddell, Assistant Superintendent, has recently been elected as District V representative for the Texas Association of School Personnel Administrators (TASPA). District V covers all school districts in Region 17 (Lubbock area), Region 16 (Amarillo area), Region 14 (San Angelo area), and Region 9 (Wichita Falls area). As a representative, Mr. Caddell will serve a three-year term as a voting member of TASPA’s Executive Board, assist in the coordination of Organization activities in the geographical area served, assist in member recruitment, contribute information on personnel issues in the TASPA Newsletter, work with the Executive Director to develop conference programs that will showcase human resources best practices and key issues impacting the human resource department, and attend and serve as facilitators at designated district and state conferences. TASPA is a professional association primarily made up of Texas public school human resources (HR) administrators and support staff. TASPA assists in providing the tools, strategies and approaches necessary to support effectively and efficiently a district's HR function with relevant and timely information on the trends in the public school human resources profession. TASPA is divided into six regional districts by education service center. Members receive timely email alerts on state agency news and legislative updates, newsletters, and special reports on key issues in personnel and human resource administration. The membership also provides for a voice on personnel issues before the Texas Legislature, State Board of Education, Texas Education Agency, State Board for Educator Certification, and among the members. Mr. Caddelll we are so proud of you and are so glad that you are a LISD leader on our team! Thank you for what you do for LISD educators!
First-Year Teacher Academy Graduates
LISD's First Year Teacher Academy wrapped up this week with a graduation ceremony at Central Office. These first-year Texas teachers have had the opportunity to learn from one another as well as from Curriculum Coordinators Christi Peck & Gracie Ruiz, and from Testing Coordinator Terri White. The First Year Teacher Academy gives new teachers a way to build relationships and learn from one another on the ins and outs of daily teaching routines. Congratulations to these LISD teachers who are making a difference in students' learning every day!
Bus Driver Appreciation Day!
We appreciate our LISD School Bus Drivers and celebrated them last week on National Bus Driver Appreciation Day! Our bus drivers get up early and stay late to ensure our students have a safe trips to and from school and events. Our team of bus drivers take pride in getting our students to and from school safely. If you see a bus driver, give them a pat on the back!
Capitol Spelling Bee
Capitol held their annual spelling bee today that started with 23 third and fourth graders. Fourth grader Brooklyn Escobar won the Capitol Bee after competing for 13 Rounds by spelling the word nighttime. Fourth grader Micah Favor took home the Runner Up trophy and fourth grader Sebastian Romero was the alternate. These students will spell in the LISD District Spelling Bee on Tuesday, February 27th at 1 pm at the Middle School Auditorium. Congratulations to these kids. Thank you to Mrs. Amy Pebsworth & the parents for helping your child study the spelling bee words. It is so hard to get up and spell in front of others on a microphone. Thank you to our judges for your hard task of judging!
Mardi Gras!
The LHS Student Council successfully organized a fundraising event last week, offering Mardi Gras Bead necklaces for purchase at one dollar each to both students and teachers. The purchase of these necklaces granted participants entry into a captivating Rock-Paper-Scissors Tournament. Participants could challenge one another using their beads, and the victor claimed all of the loser's beads. The culminating event transpired in the gymnasium during remediation period, where Alvaro Loza emerged victorious in a compelling final match against Coach Rico. As the ultimate champion, Mr. Loza not only won all the beads from the competition but also received a $25 gift card to Taco Villa. It was a fun way to raise a quick $200 for the LHS Student Council!
PK Practice Drill....
Our ABC PK students practiced their annual bus evacuation drills today. They learned to stay calm and listen, to move swiftly but safely, and how to move out and away from the bus in case of an accident or unforeseen incident. We thank our Transportation Department for help in these training exercises that keep our students safe.
WWII Study....................
Dr. Tennison’s LMS class has been learning about US history, particularly World War II. Mr. Burton, an LMS eighth-grade history teacher, hosted a lesson in his class to teach about different military memorabilia. We love it when our LISD educators #expectexcellence and collaborate to cross over to work with other students. Thank you Mr. Burton and Dr. Tennison for this great lesson!
