LISD Expect Excellence Newsletter
April 2nd, 2024
Hello Levelland Lobos!
Welcome back. I hope you had a wonderful Easter holiday and extended weekend.
This week, we get to celebrate our Assistant Principals. These ladies and gentlemen work tirelessly and help lead their campus with compassion and professionalism. Thank you for all that you do for our students.
The months of April and May will undoubtedly be busy. Jon Gordon states the number one predictor of success is grit. Grit is the ability to work hard for a long period of time towards a goal. We will persevere and work through the last weeks of the school year to ensure success for our students.
Go Lobos!
Expect Excellence
Sincerely, Becky McCutchen
Assistant Principal's Week!
LISD is celebrating National Assistant Principal's Week this week and every week of the year! Our assistant principals work tirelessly to bolster teachers, motivate students, support their principals, create a positive learning community, and face the many unpredictable challenges that land in front of them. Assistant Principals play a crucial role, and this week is a dedicated time to recognize them for their hard work and commitment to our schools, students, and profession. Please join us in celebrating these incredible school leaders when you see them this week!

All Things LISD..................
eSports Competition
LHS, Mrs. April Austin, & our IT Department hosted their first eSPorts All-Day Tournament. It was a huge success. West Plains Canyon ISD, Tulia ISD, Lefors ISD, Klondike ISD, Lubbock Copper, and Whiteface ISD all visited to compete against our LHS eSports students. Many schools had success in different areas of play. Levelland won Apex Legends. Canyon West Plains won Valorant. Whiteface won Fortnite. Lubbock Cooper won Rocket League. These winners were put into a pot and Canyon West Plains won the Alienware Computer donated by DELL Computers! Congratulations to all these amazing students! Thank you to Mrs. Austin and our IT peeps for helping organize an outstanding event!
Garbage Lesson
South 2nd, 3rd & 4th-Graders enjoyed a trashy lesson with Keep Levelland Beautiful last week during Genius Hour! Students learned how much trash is gathered in Levelland and how they might help with the garbage problem by recycling and upcycling. They made a garbage pizza and each slice represented the amount of trash gathered in the trash dump. This lesson was garbage and hopefully made these students think about how to recycle their trash!
Authors at ABC!
Mrs. Taylor Peck’s first-grade class published a book, called "All About Math." The book contains different math problems for the readers to solve while they read. They celebrated becoming published authors. They created their own bookmarks to go with them as well. Congratulations to these new authors!

Easter Art!
Hippity-Hoppity Easter's on its way! South students were caught this week creating Easter art. They had to use their fine-motor skills for these small Bunnies. They had to use their math skills to show symmetry to the other Bunnies. Thank you to Mrs. Bara for always engrossing kids in the most intriguing art activities.

ABC Bunny Hop!
Here comes hundreds of Peter Cotton Tails! Levelland ABC Parent Club held a Bunny Hop today and the weather turned out perfect! Our Littles enjoyed hopping around the Lobo Track while enjoying exercise and fresh air. Lots of parents enjoyed getting in on the action too. There was a giant bunny (aka Mrs. Hicks) and a real bunny that was so cuddly and soft. The ABC PIA Club thanks Walmart for donating the Easter Baskets raffled off for each grade level. The Parent Club is raising money to get a covered shade for the ABC Playground! We can't wait to see that addition! Thank you, Parent Club, for bouncing us into the Easter holiday!

K-9 Visits South!
Thank you to our Levelland Police Department for teaching South students about Police Dogs. These dogs go to school too, to train to do various jobs that keep us safe. Thank you for letting kids love on you Luna!
Blinded by Science!
LHS students in Mrs. Merribeth Gregory's Honors Biology Class were caught gathering soil and water samples at local Playa Lakes to gather information to study ecological succession. Simply put, ecological succession is the sequential process of rebuilding an ecosystem after a disaster. They gathered their samples, let them grow, and then studied the microorganisms under microscopes to determine the kind it was. They had to categorize what they found by the Playa Lake they found it from and will decide which ones are harmful and which are helpful. Thanks Mrs. Gregory, for a glimpse into a day in your classroom! https://files.gabbart.com/456/gregoryvideo.mp4
Peep Peep!
ABC first-graders in Mrs. Tammy Brach's class sat on magic eggs all week! These students gave extra care to keep their eggs warm. They loved them, protected them, didn't let them crack or fall, & #expectedexcellence. And surprise! Yesterday they came to school, their Peeps chicks had hatched, and they were perfect! Mrs. Branch says, "this was so fun watching my kids believe all week!" Thank you Mrs. Branch, for a glimpse into your classroom.
Drama, drama, drama!
Do you ever get tired of drama? Well you won't get tired of this kind of drama! LMS 5th-graders in Mr. Randol's Classes have been studying drama this week. They combined their time spent with the Spanish novel Don Quixote and their knowledge of dramas into theatrical performances. The students used the fictional story of Don Quixote as a script. They were asked to choose a specific scene or event to reenact. Since the story of Don Quixote has had several adaptations, the students were allowed some creative liberty in reenacting their specific scenes. The students could use the many aspects of drama when exploring how they would write the script for their particular reenactment. They enjoyed putting on the performances for their classmates! Thank you, Mr. Randol, for sharing this fun learning experience with us!
South Music Program!
South Elementary 4th-Graders are performing their spring concert! There's more than just singing too. Students have learned how to play the Ocarinas, the Tubano drums & the drum fit balls. A lot is going on in the Music Department at South! Thank you to Music Director Mrs. Jennifer Turner and Mrs. Juana Soliz for pushing kids to learn more and more often!
