CULINARY VISITS FISHER MITCHELL
A big thank you to The Mid-Coast Maine Retired Educators Association for the grant you gave Bath Tech Culinary Arts.
This past week......
We purchased Maine lobsters from a local "lobster" couple. The Bath Tech students steamed and picked them. Then made lobster Mac n Cheese. We then headed to Fisher Mitchell School where Linda Styles, 4th grade teacher, coordinated the space and groups so all 4th graders could participate in the experience. Local Losterpeople, Dan and Tina Libby came in with live lobsters and gear to explain the industry to the students. Bath Tech students were there to help pass around lobsters, serve mac n cheese and coordinate each child signing a buoy handle and later Dan and Tina will send a photo to the teachers of it in the water. The students had great questions and all students really enjoyed it.
Some of the older students were touched to be back in their elementary school for the first time since they went to school there. It was like going down memory lane they said. Another student from Lincoln Academy kept looking at a teacher and finally asked if it was okay if she asked the teacher her first name. Well it turned out this teacher babysat her and her siblings over 10 years ago. What a reunion that was!!
This experience would have never been possible without MidCoast Retired Educators. It touched and brought together so many. We appreciate retired teachers and all you continue to do to touch students' lives. (article by Chef Baldwin)
