CDC Updates COVID-19 Recommendations
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) and Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) have released updated recommendations regarding COVID-19. These new recommendations no longer require individuals to isolate for five days and now align with recommendations for flu, RSV and other common respiratory viruses. Bastrop ISD will follow the updated guidance, which states that individuals who test positive for COVID-19 or a respiratory virus, stay home and away from others until they are 24 hours fever-free without fever-reducing medication with symptoms improving.
If you have questions, please contact Bastrop ISD Health Services at health@bisdtx.org or 512-772-7249.

Did You Know?
Bastrop ISD has a School Health Advisory Council (SHAC). The SHAC is a group appointed by the school district to serve at the district level. Members of the SHAC come from different areas of the community and from within the school district. The majority of members must be parents who are not employed by the district. Members of the School Health Advisory Council committee include parents, community members, health services staff, counseling and mental health staff, and physical education staff. Texas law requires the establishment of a SHAC for every school district. SHACs are required to meet at least four times each year.
SHACs assist the districts in ensuring that local community values are reflected in health education instruction. Additionally, SHACs can help districts meet performance goals and alleviate financial constraints. SHACs play an important role in strengthening the connection between health and learning. They can help parents and community stakeholders reinforce the knowledge and skills children need to stay healthy for a lifetime.
INTERESTED IN BEING A SHAC MEMBER?
If you are interested in becoming a BISD SHAC member, please complete this application: BISD SHAC Membership Application. The deadline to apply is April 19, 2024, at 11:00 pm.
If you would like more information about serving as a member of the SHAC, please contact Tanya Coleman at tcoleman@bisdtx.org or Garland Griedl at ggriedl@bisdtx.org.

Visit the Practice Test Site for TELPAS & STAAR so your child can get familiar with how the test might look on the day of their testing. Ask your child's teacher about what tests they will be taking and in what language. To learn more about the STAAR Test in Texas, go to the STAAR resources webpage where you will find more information about who is tested, what is tested, what the test looks like, and much more.
