Warrior Weekly
Issue 28 - March 28, 2024
Congratulations!
We are so proud of our Warriors who participated in GCSD's Annual Tech Fair on Wednesday. There were so many great projects, not just by our students, but by others in the district as well. WMS brought back four trophies to add to the case!
Best in Show for Graphic Design: Anna Reese Gates and Harper Hightower
Best in Show for Animation/3D Modeling: Mackenzie Merritt and Ada Cathryn Allen
Best in Show for Coding: Colby Bradshaw and Crawford Spires
Receiving the highest score out of all ten categories at the middle school level and being awarded the Overall Best in Show was Bella Sierra-Paschal and Kami'on Moultrie for Video Production!
Congratulations to an amazing group of students! You represented Waccamaw Middle well. Way to go!
WMS Band
Our Warriors continued to represent us well this week as many of our band students participated in the South Carolina Concert Performance Assessment, which is essentially the State Assessment for Concert Band programs across the entire state of South Carolina. These students received a rating of “Excellent” on stage and “Superior” in Sight Reading. Congraulations to all our talented musicians! We are so proud of their accomplishments!
Special Recognition
Not only do our students stand out, but so do our teachers and parents! WMS is proud to announce our Rookie Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Bradshaw, and our Volunteers of the Year, Kiera Merritt and Jodi Ryba. We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful support system in our staff and parents. Thank you ladies for everything you do for our Warrior family.

Attention 8th Grade Parents
It's hard to believe that it's time to start making preparations for the 8th grade Promotion Ceremony that will take place in May. As part of this event, we need a baby picture of your child. Please submit your child’s picture on the link provided below, or you can email it to Mrs. Grate at jgrate@gcsd.k12.sc.us. You may also send in a copy of the picture with your child’s name on it. Please remember WMS is not responsible for any lost or damaged pictures. Please have these pictures in by April 1st 2024.
IGP Information
The South Carolina Education and Economic Development Act (EEDA) requires middle schools to implement an Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) for all 8th grade students. These plans are determined during a scheduled meeting with your child's guidance counselor, Mrs. Williams. At this meeting we will be creating academic/career goals for your child and selecting their 9th grade high school courses. It is strongly encouraged that a parent/guardian attends the meeting with their child so they can be involved in the high school planning process. To schedule the IGP meeting with your child, please visit
https://calendly.com/kimwilliamswms/individualized-graduation-plan-meetings to book your in-person appointment with Mrs. K. Williams at Waccamaw Middle School. All IGP’s must be completed by Friday, April 26, 2024.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at kiwilliams@gcsd.k12.sc.us or at 843-237-0106. I look forward to meeting with you and your child to help plan for their future.
