Dear Hyde-Addison ES Families,

Congratulations to our school level and cluster level spelling bee winners. Two of our students will be headed to the city-wide spelling bee. We are extremely proud of all of our participants.

Also, congratulations to the basketball team. They are off to a magnificent start and have won their first two games of the season.

Please be reminded that students have no school next Friday, February 16, 2024, or the following Monday, on February 19, 2024, due to a DCPS professional development day and in recognition of a holiday.

If your child auditioned for the school musical this week, please keep an eye on your email inbox from Ms. Taylor for time-sensitive next steps over the coming days! The announcement about what the musical will be, as well as the cast list, will be coming out next week.

We are so proud of our 3 students who went to the cluster spelling bee! We are excited that two of our students will be advancing to the city-wide bee, based on their performance at the cluster bee this week.

We are so proud of the hard work that our basketball team put in and are happy to share that they won their first home game this week! You are invited to come cheer them on at future home games (information shared below).

Parent of a current 5th grader, Silvie Maaloul, is happy to talk more with you about the opportunity for your child to participate in Scouts!

The submission deadline for the Future Chefs 3rd-5th grade competition has been extended to February 18th for online submissions and February 15th for in-person submissions!

We are excited to bring families six amazing sessions to answer questions from how to enroll in DCPS to how to support children during key transitions. All sessions provide live access to education experts across the district and more! The sessions are always virtual and on Tuesday evenings. Families can register here to send questions in advance and request interpretation services, or they can just tune-in the day-of the event via this link.

“The 2023 DC School Report Card is built on OSSE’s amended ESSA State Plan, which increases the school accountability system’s emphasis on student growth and marginalized student groups. The school accountability system will also see returning metrics that were not available during the coronavirus (COVID-19) health emergency such as ACCESS growth and student growth on the math and ELA assessments, as well as introduce new metrics such as high school student growth, five-year graduation rate and AP/IB/Dual Enrollment participation.”

In short, the DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) has released the 2023 DC School Report Card, which scores and rates schools in various areas, including academic achievement, academic growth, attendance and enrollment.

Based on this data, Hyde-Addison ES was ranked #2 for all DCPS Elementary Schools.

Your room parents are putting together a grade level basket to auction off at the Gala. They can use your help to fill it with any gift cards, unopened toys, wine, books etc. Please reach out to your room parents with your great ideas!

School ends at 3:25pm and students are late being picked up after 3:30pm. Please be reminded that early dismissal ends at 2:50pm and we must clear the field for aftercare students to use.
