35TH ANNUAL ALUMINUM CAN DRIVE
NO SCHOOL
FRIDAY, APRIL 26TH
STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAY
ONE SCHOOL ONE BOOK
This week, Webster families should have read chapters 6-8 of Malcolm at Midnight at home. Don’t forget to follow along on Malcolm’s Reading Map as to which chapters you should be reading. Students can also complete this week’s Malcolm’s Memories Trivia Game. The trivia questions close at 3 pm each Monday, and winners will be announced on Tuesday.
Even though every fiction book is different, there are some characteristics that you can find in every fiction book. One of those characteristics that all fiction books have are characters. Characters are the people or animals in a story, and Malcolm is quite a character! We can learn a lot about a character’s personality by the things the character says or does. Talk as family about the character of Malcolm. How would you describe him? Is he brave? Trusting? Curious? Ask your child, are you like Malcolm in any way? Maybe, you are brave or outgoing like him. Being able to make connections to the characters in a book helps you as a reader understand the character’s feelings and makes us care about that character.
This week at school, we talked about Malcolm’s decision to not tell the other animals of the Midnight Academy that he really was a rat. We had discussions about what we would we do if we were Malcolm. Great conversations were had about lying to our friends and being true to our own identity.
Next week, please read Chapters 9-12. Continue to enjoy reading about Malcolm’s journey as a family!
GOOD NEIGHBORS
Please refrain from blocking or parking close to the driveways of our Webster neighbors when picking up or dropping off students. We want to be good neighbors and it can be frustrating to them to have their driveway blocked when they need it.
WEBSTER CRISIS DRILL
Crisis Drill: Next week we will be holding a crisis drill at Webster School. We will hold a “cautionary hold” drill. Mr. Clark will make an announcement and teachers will practice locking doors and hold a discussion with students about times we may use this procedure. Mr. Clark will email families after the drill has been completed so you can talk with your students about it.
